It's because most people now can't form a thought or a coherent sentence past 140 characters. They simply lack communication skills, and it shows. Moreover they don't even try. Too bad as just like PUTC there was a good core group of members that knew how to conduct themselves and participate in a constructive manor.

I just bailed from another forum because every post could have been a twitter message. Scrolling through pages of threads digging out two or three relevant, informational, well thought out posts wasn't worth it. The people who run the site didn't have a concern in the world, as long as the revenue was flowing in.

One sponsor in particular would jump into threads and off the wall from left field would declare they're product would solve, cancer, world hunger, and provide never ending peace for humanity.

They didn't respond or even try to reign in the shenanigans. Bye bye.

For people that run a website, they seem awful burdened by running a website.

It's what they do, but at the same time, they have no wish to actually do it.

For Mike, it was his passion, for the tools there now, it's just something they do until they can draw Social Security.

That announcement should have read something like this.


As some have noted we have let the forums go to shit and have been doing so for a long time. We are in the process of moving our website and will not include forums because if we did, we would let them go to shit. We appreciate the vast knowledge our members bring, which is why a we let a great resource die. The comment section will remain and we will halfassed moderate it the way we have been doing. We appreciate your continued participation, but please participate in the train wreck under each story.

Regardless of what the bloggers think we all offered technical advice and real world experiences to many, many people over the years.

Any way to search the old (web archive?) forums? There's A LOT of info there.

I had the forum home page bookmarked but when I tried to pull it up I didn't get anything. I'm guessing if you can't get to the homepage the info within is also unavailable.

Most of it seems to be on web-archive.org...but I'm not sure how I can search that.

It's been a week, possibly more since I tried to go to the PUTC site. A minute ago I tried to check the news section and all I get is "unknown domain: news.pickuptrucks.com". Anyone know how long the news section has been down? Is this a temporary thing or is the site slowly getting dismantled?

I'm getting the same message. Maybe the site is imploding or something? Not that Cars.com gives a damn!

Strange stuff going on with DNS and the C Name records. Substituting the ip 74.119.98.141 for news.pickuptrucks.com gets nothing either.

Maybe a website, hosting transfer, or DNS migration gone south. Who knows, don't really care honestly. I'm sure the crack crew at PUTC is on top of it.

Possibly didn't have the domain locked, someone got in and started making DNS changes.

Who knows with those cheap bastards. Probably didn't keep their hosting fees paid and the BLM has confiscated it.
