Had to put down my traveling companion of 13+ yrs this morning. Mostly Shih-tzu part pug/poodle mix. Perfect travel dog, loved to ride, was comfortable and knew how to ride. The other one, he still hasn't figured out he needs to sit down so as to not eat the dash/door/floor etc.
She played fetch with those mini tennis balls less than 2 days before I had to put her down, right to the end. Buried many dogs over the years and this was the toughest. Zoey, 5/2008 - 10/18/2021
On the left in both pictures.

Sorry for your loss. Pets do become part of the family. My dog has stayed by my side since my surgery, she is so loyal. Will you get another?

Sorry to see that. Losing a good dog is hard to go through.

Wife says no but IMO it's too soon to say. She had one of those rare personalities that will be hard to replace. Few years back we tried adopting a Shih-Tzu and had to give it back since it wouldn't get along. We took in a shelter puppy after that, Bichon Frise mix and he's been with us since.
She had been with us through 3 different states and 4 homes.

For the last two years my wife and son have been looking for either a husky or German Shepard. I was dead set against it. Well, my son bought a Shepard that my daughter found from a friend at school in Georgia. 4 months old, good looking dog. Now my leather couch has the corner chewed off.

Both of the dogs at my daughters dorm in Georgia. Both of them came from Georgia, Brandi on top of the bed we adopted 4 years ago while there. The Shepard was named Zelda by my son. He is taking care of Zelda and doing a good job so far. The couch was eaten on my wife's watch.

The two on the seat are gone now. Put down the Dachshund last year. Just over a year old and already riding around on the quads. She was a photo bomber, showed up in so many of my construction pics too.
Here is our daughters pup at her 4 month challenge photo I believe. Now she is around 120 lbs.

Zoey never chewed on anything and she basically potty trained herself to go outside. Spoiled us, lol.

Sad to hear that.
Ours has been showing slight neurologic decline so we're anticipating the inevitable. She's the best dogs we've ever had. Smart, good demeanor, social, self potty trained, overall a quick learner. Maybe she's a Lake Wobegon dog.
They give comfort but I'm not sure we should get another pet relative to possibly opting for more travel.

Black one is my pound rescue...about 11/12 yrs old now. Obsesses over being outside, digging, etc...half to pull him off sometimes just to get him cooled down, some water and rest. Red one is 3 now. Loves to sit with you, or anyone else he can. Laid back, easy going dog. White one is right at 6mos old now. He's either at 12000rpm or dead asleep. But loves everyone that he meets. Plays as hard as possible, then sleeps just as hard.
They all like to travel, get along with other dogs and people. Needy, demanding little things. Red and Black one are attached to me. White one is attached to the wife.

We have a Ring doorbell/camera...I can be out in the shop out back, and when they hear the Ring doorbell alert on my phone, they tear ass through the yard, through the doggy door like a torpedo launching and stampede to the front door barking.
We disabled the motion alerts at night because of it.

My sons Shepard has a broken leg she received while playing with out other dog. Took her to the Vet who recommended an orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon is an hour away. I can't imagine how much this will cost. While we have insurance on our dog, my son doesn't have it on the Shepard. There will have to be some sort of payment plan they have for things like this.

I currently pay $63 a month. When I first got it, it was only $36. The surgeon I went to yesterday asked me "who told you there was a break, nothing is broken". So, because the Vet I go to was covering their ass I'm out $400 (actually my son is out). Three visits and a bandage that was not needed. Now we are looking for coverage for both dogs that is more reasonable. Unless the dog has a major issue, Insurance doesn't pay for many other things.

Losing animals is hard. Spend so much time and energy in them they become family. Had to put down Buddy last year and looking at Libby maybe in a year or two.

House got real quiet today. So long little hunting buddy. His name was Flame, now my flame is out. We just finished a 1500+ mile road trip and he came down ill at the end of it. No dogs for first time in almost 20 yrs.

They were my travel companions, always ready for a road trip. Going to take a while getting used to going alone.
