First Heavy Tow with the F250 Empty
PostSubject: First Heavy Tow with the F250   First Heavy Tow with the F250 EmptyNovember 16th 2020, 3:06 pm

For some reason, Covid has caused everyone in America to buy an RV this year, making getting a spot at a park almost impossible here in TX or anywhere close. Finally got a spot for this past weekend. Happened to have a load of firewood in the bed of the truck too, so I kept most of that in there to take camping too.

Also upgraded the tires on the camper last month to Goodyear Endurance ST tires and removed the complete shit China Bombs that it came with.

F250 has 80 more HP and 135lbft of torque than the 2017 Ram it replaced, and that was immediately noticable. Along with a far better 6 speed than the Ram had(68rfe). Had Airlift 5000 airbags on the Ram, added SumoSprings on the Ford. They are kinda like Timbrens, as they replace the bumpstops, but come in 3 different load ratings. I used the middle ones.

Truck pulled and handled better than the Ram. The new tires on the trailer helped too. No more bouncy, wallowy, all around shit feeling from the ChinaBombs.
SumoSprings rode better than the Airbags. Truck sat level, even with about a 1000lbs of wood in the bed, and the 1250lb hitch weight of the trailer.

6th gear in the Ford at 65 is right at 1500rpm, and about 1900rpm in 5th. Pulled in 5th mostly. Had about a 25mph southwind going(headwind) then it flipped for the drive home, 25mph northwind(headwind). The Husky Centerline TS weight distribution/sway control hitch does a great job handling it.

ChinaBombs flat spotted, hard braked once, skidded maybe 30ft max, tread was almost gone just from that. Beads were complete crap on those too.

Sidewalls are thin, even though they are supposedly "E" rated. Basically, cheap rubber balloons of some Chinesium compound.

Sumo Springs. Unloaded vs Trailer Connected. Nice smooth ride, no "porpoising" when towing. The are about $280 for the pair.

JustTires sent a mobile installer to the house, changed the Camper tires in my driveway. Same cost as dragging my trailer to them.

I plan on replacing the Chinese tires on the RV next season. I just don't trust them.
Glad to hear the new truck is working well for you towing wise. When I first bought a fifth wheel I had a new Dodge 2500HD. It did a fair job towing, but when I went to a new Chevy diesel it was a night and day difference.

Like the review.
I've been thinking about getting some Sumo springs for my LBZ too. It's only a 2500 so has a light spring pack, imo.
