| That really sucks! They are not nice people you work for.
Here is my old jobs "one of my worst stories for being sick". About 3-4 years ago I discovered that I became allergic to one of my favorite breakfast food -eggs. I made some eggs for my daughter and myself, I got violently sick for 3 days. Monday morning I called out sick, at 1:00 pm the Executive Director starts giving me shit about missing work ( we get 12 sick days per year, first time sick that year) and yells for 1/2 hour straight about other sick time I had (surgery to remove part of my intestine, and falling in a snow covered hole at work with required knee surgery). An hour later he calls saying I missed an important meeting about baby wipes that people flush down the toilet. He said I really made the Authority look bad as every other Authority had some one there. He then tellsl me the first phone call was a verbal warning, second call was notice of a written warning and when I come back I better have a doctors note. I went to the doctor, she said stay home another day and gave me a note. When I went back to work, I received a letter giving me 2 days unpaid off and another letter in my file (like I give a fuc). First, per contract having a doctors note is mandatory after missing 5 days in a row not 3 off so he couldn't do it legally. Civil Service agreed, but said to handle it through the company as for something that small the didn't want to be bothered. Thinking they were smart, they gave me a Tuesday and a Thursday off without pay, so I took a personal day on the Wednesday to piss the off. After that I hired a lawyer so I could get all my back sick pay 50% by government contract, all my vacation time, and 3 months pay just because they were jerk offs. It took over 6 months to get out of there and they screwed with me the entire time, trying to demote me, cut my pay by 16K, no time off allowed during that time. What started out as something small like being sick blew up to a major affair. Civil Service was a joke, they agreed I worked several pay grades higher than my title, but wouldn't go for back pay. They could raise my pay scale, then the company could really screw with me as I would be titled Engineer when I'm not and then say I can't design a building or pump station.
Yea, long rant, but I had to get that out. Thanks. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| It seems to be the trend to keep people in the dark in regards to salary. For me, I had to only go online as all state and public employees were made public.
When I went to being a contract employee, my 5 year contract stated 5% a year raise. The top bosses received the 5% but told us it would be unfair to receive more than the union workers. But the two head people took 5% twice a year and gave themselves a nice bonus every year. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| Hilux, go get checked out, sounds like a gall bladder going bad. I fiddled around with mine til it almost killed me. It was rotten when they took it out. Spent a week in the hospital clearing up the infection. | |

| First time they checked mine, nothing.
Then I was in the ER half dead with a gall bladder chock full of stones and "sand" with it rotten.
They flew in some antibiotics on a helicopter and kept it on standby. If they wouldn't have worked, they were gonna load me up on it and fly me down to Dallas. Shit gets real in a hurry when the infection gets into your blood.

Just spent the last six weeks driving a Freightliner with a Cat and 13 speed, did my road test this morning and now have my Class A CDL. It was a nice truck.

We had a guy last year that went to a CDL mill in California I am 99% positive he was an illegal immigrant that had about 6 minutes driving a truck from what I could tell , well long story short I was riding with him and I informed him we were coming up on a big hill ( its not really that big ) he had a melt down panic and pulled over and I had to drive the rest of the day

| Congratulations on getting your CDL.
I had a Class A CDL which I foolishly gave up 3 years ago while working at the Municipal Water Utility. When I first started work, I had to possess a CDL to operate a Vac-truck as I was a water treatment plant operator. I took the job with the agreement that I would move over to the engineering department when there was an opening. 8 months later I moved over to engineering, and one of my first jobs was to write a procedure to meet the required Federal Regulations for a CDL driver. It was decided the rest of the company would also have to submit to random drug testing but not to have to meet the strict alcohol requirements of 0.04. The company tested me about once a year but no one else in the Administration side was getting tested. I brought this up to the Executive Director and he claimed by law I had to be tested. Not true, if you don't drive a CDL vehicle. After another 5 years went by and I was the only person to be tested on my side I decided to just drop the CDL. I will still pass a drug test but when you are the only person out of 32 being tested, It is an insult. I should never have dropped the CDL but what's done is done. I would have to go through the written and driving test all over if I want to get it back. Funny thing is I was grandfathered in never having to take a written or driving test. When the Feds first introduced the CDL, your dispatcher had to sign a card stating you had 200 hours of driving experience and got the license which was first called Auto Articulate, and later changed to CDL. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| Thanks Rich. I had to have a Class A license in the Military to tow our Anti Aircraft gun, but when I got out, the license was non transferable. We could only carry-over our air brake endorsement. I got my straight truck license (class D up here) when I got out and drove for six years, but then started work in a factory where I've been for the last sixteen years. Long story short, China killed that job, so I'm going through a career change again. Hoping to end up as an Excavator operator, and Class A to float my own equipment when needed. We'll see how that pans out.

| I worked in a sand pit running a Cat 992 and 988. Two buckets and a 20 yd. truck was loaded to spill. Some days at lunch and the end of the day my legs would be numb from all the vibration. It felt like they fell asleep. It was still an enjoyable job, heated/AC cabs and FM radios, literally in the middle of no where. We would bring shotguns during duck season and it wasn't unusual to see someone jump out of a truck with a shotgun and take a few shots.
The first time I moved a Cat 966 on a lowboy, I had no clue what I was doing, working for a company going downhill fast, I drove down the center of a highway and took out the first overhead traffic light I came to. There are days I really miss the construction. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.
