| I hope they bring it out with a diesel. The Lion would be better than the I5 used in the Transit because of power ratings. It would have power, fuel economy but less complexity than the EcoBoost. | |

| Ford and GM been screwing around for years. Would be nice if they joined Ram and offered a diesel. | |

| Ford F-150 Diesel Testing With 3.0L Diesel “Lion” V-6 Coming for 2017 - Quote :
- We took a pretty good look yesterday at what changes Ford will make to the 2018 F-150 in its midcycle refresh, and almost as soon as we clicked “publish,” we got these, a fresh batch of images showing Ford testing its fullsize truck with a 3.0L diesel engine.
A 3-liter has been rumored for the F-150 for some time, but these images all but confirm it. Looking closely at the rear window reveals the emissions calibration code: JFC1-3.0-966, depicting a control unit code, engine displacement, and vehicle tag number. That all-important “3.0” proves an engine of that displacement will power the F-150 oil-burner, not the 3.2L Power Stroke I-5 found in other Ford products.
Further proof of the compression-ignition engine comes via the Venturi exhaust tip, which is found almost exclusively on diesel engines to help improve emissions efficiency. Additionally, spy photographers reported hearing a faint diesel clatter unlike that of a gas engine and distinctly different from a 3.5L EcoBoost V-6. Additionally, emissions-control equipment can be seen under the driver's side of the truck's bed, indicating a DEF tank or other exhaust aftertreatments.
Ford will likely source its motor from overseas, as Ram does with the VM Motori-designed EcoDiesel V-6. One possible option? The 3.0L V-6 (called Lion) found under the hoods of certain Jaguar and Land Rover products. In the American-market Range Rover, the so-called Td6 produces 440 lb-ft at 1,750 rpm, compared to the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel’s 420 lb-ft at 2,000 rpm. Ford could even retune the engine for more low-end torque if it really wants to add insult to injury.
We should get a closer look at Ford’s plans for its diesel F-150 at an upcoming auto show, perhaps the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show in November or the 2017 North American International Auto Show in January. Truck Trend | |

| Ford's been pretty quiet. 3L with 440ft-lb at 1750 might be engine of the year territory. Hopefully it's fuel efficient and has more payload than the ecodiesel.

| I hope they gear it and tune it more toward fuel economy. The payload on half tons is getting ridiculous while fuel economy is still poor compared to years ago especially compared to how much everything else about the pickups has so drastically improved. | |

| It will be 50 grand, no one cares about fuel economy at that price range anyway. | |

| But the less they burn the cheaper it will be for m to burn in my 14/19 mpg Expedition. | |

| This will be an interesting departure given Ford's PR machine has been saying diesels don't make sense in the half tons. | |

| I'd like to know why the 5.0 is a $1600 option. And if they are charging that much for an motor that has been around forever then how much will the diesel option cost. . | |

| Its only been around in the trucks since 2011 and the Mustang since 2010. Doesn't seem like forever compared to the Hemi and the 5.3 GM. | |
