2015 Ford F-150 2.7L EcoBoost Gets 16.6/21.5 MPG in Motor Trend Test
Unofficial, But Scientific Test Returns Competitive Figure

Quote :
Official fuel economy figures for the 2.7L EcoBoost V-6 in the 2015 Ford F-150 have not yet been released, but that didn’t stop our sister publication Motor Trend, in partnership with Emissions Analytics, from running its “Real MPG” test on the new powertrain in a 4x4 SuperCab. After the 80-plus-mile test, scientific analysis of the emissions of the truck netted a 16.6 mpg city and 21.5 mpg highway figure. For comparison, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with the 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 got 13 city and 19 highway, and the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel got 18.6 city and 25.8 highway in Real MPG tests.

The EPA ratings for the current F-150 equipped with the 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 are 15 city, 21 highway for the 4x4 model, and 16 city, 22 highway for the 4x2. Ford is claiming between a 5 and 20 percent improvement in fuel economy for the 2015 model, depending on configuration. Since the EcoBoost debuted in 2011 in the F-150, Ford has been aggressively promoting its brand of turbo gasoline direct-injection (T-GDI) technology as being able to deliver both power and economy.

However, anecdotally, many EcoBoost owners have reported lower-than-expected fuel economy while towing or hauling heavy loads, as the engine consumes more fuel under load and boost. Ford is expected to announce the official EPA figures for the 2015 F-150 closer to its on-sale date in late 2014.

I'm thinking about an F150 2WD 8'box reg cab with the 2.7 eco boost. I priced one out at $28,625 sticker with only a few options. Might have to wait a bit for the furvor to die down but I'm thinking an ordered truck could go out the door for 25K or so with the right dealer.

I recall the std axle ratio was 3.31 so I'm thinking mileage could be in the mid 20's (hwy) on a truck like that if not driven hard.

The supplier or X-Plan discount might get you pretty close to that total number. X-Plan is pretty easy to come by through a number of associations. A buying service like TrueCar or Coscto might be an option as well.
