For the second month in a row, harsh weather seems to have kept some truck shoppers inside their warm and protected homes, instead of walking from dealership to dealership.
General Motors and Nissan full-size pickups look like they've taken the brunt of the bad- weather hit, with Ford's F-Series staying flat and Ram's lineup remaining strong.

I thought for sure GM would slow down the bleeding with the increased incentives and advertising. Silverado sales improved from Jan's -18.4% to Feb's -15. Of course that's nothing to write home about. Ram is within one month's striking distance of Silverado YTD sales. It's as close as Ram sales growing 12.5% and Silverado dropping by -7% in March. And the Ecodiesel is about to hit the dealers. I like Ram's odds.

At this rate it won't be long before there is a new #2 truck brand. Ram might not have the volume capacity to pass both GMC and Chevy but it appears they will be able to pass Chevrolet itself. Doesn't matter what you capacity is if you can't sell the product.

The Silverado sold 4k more than the Ram in January. It sold 7k more in February. Kinda hard to pass when you're falling farther behind.

By all accounts the Silvy is falling behind. Compare Feb sales for Silvy and RAM over 2013 and 2014 and GM's sales are down 5000/month, Rams are up 6000/month. At that rate it doesn't take long to catch up.
It's easier to estimate end of year numbers for 2014. Ram would surpass the Silvy with a relative change of 20% and -14% relative to YTD 2013. That's well inline with the last few months and doesn't include changes from compounding monthly %'s. GM has to be nervous.

Unless last January and February GM had big incentives to move out the 2013 trucks and ended up with big numbers. Regardless Chevy is selling more and increasing those gains.
GM has new HDs coming to the dealers. The old ones may be selling more slowly as buyers wait for the new one or they may be snapping them up at lower prices. Unless you know the real breakdown, comparing to last year means little. Silverado sales are pulling away from Ram sales.
