RAM Ecodiesel Payload Empty
PostSubject: RAM Ecodiesel Payload   RAM Ecodiesel Payload EmptyFebruary 18th 2014, 4:48 pm

Anyone seen the new pickuptrucks.com Inaugural Annual Physical for the V6 pickups yet? The payload for the RAM Ecodiesel is poor...and that would be saying it nicely too.

GVWR = 6950 lb
As Tested Weight = 6460 lb
490lbs of payload!?  With the air suspension too.

Wow, you can't even carry 5 average American adults let alone any additional items in the bed or tonque weight.  And here I thought the ecodiesel was supposed to be better when hauling heavy loads.  I can't take my family of 4 to Costco and buy a week's worth of groceries.  Good Job RAM. RAM Ecodiesel Payload 4155716442

I'm guessing PUTC screwed up their numbers, type-o's or otherwise. Motor Trend tested a 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn EcoDiesel and it's curb-weight was listed as 6091 lbs. That doesn't make the payload much better, but if they screwed up one number, maybe the other too. 500 lb payload capacity is extremely unlikely in my books.

Oh, and welcome to NAPTO Forums tsv.

Good question. There's not much spec info out yet. Some say it's related to the soft ride/coil over springs but I'd think there'd be an option to substantially increase payload.

I gotta say Ram really screwed up this rollout from several delays to the lack of info including those of us that signed up for email updates the better part of a year ago.

They're selling like gangbusters with 8000 orders in 3 days. We'll see how that impacts market share as Ram breathes down the back of GM's Silverado.

That number came from what was supposed to be the window sticker. It also shows a 3.55 axle and the text in the test said it was actually a 3.92. I'd be willing to bet that it comes with a different payload package, not even Ram would do something that lame.

I don't think this is going to be the big seller most people are predicting. Out of those 8000 orders 400 are actually sold. Sounds like 5%. There wont be many Ford and GM brand loyal customers crossing over, so sales will be cannibalized from regular Ram trucks. Of course, I may be wrong. We'll have to wait till the initial frenzy, if any, is over to find out.
