| I wonder if Ford got off easy. 135k miles or six years doesn't seem like much of a settlement considering the size of the disaster. Lots of folks steer clear of these models so owners had to be hit with depreciating values. The 16 plaintiffs each received around $9300 for their troubles. Maybe another example that you can't beat big corporate lawyers. - Quote :
- Ford Motor Co. has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit over claims that it sold defective diesel engines in its 2003-07 Super Duty pickups and E-series vans.
The now discontinued diesel 6-liter V-8, manufactured by Ford's former diesel engine supplier, Navistar International, had myriad problems with the fuel system, turbochargers and other major components.
According to the settlement, any U.S. purchaser and lessee of any 2003-07 Ford vehicle equipped with a 6-liter Power Stroke diesel engine is covered if the vehicle's exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler and EGR valve, oil cooler, fuel injectors, or turbocharger was repaired, replaced or adjusted prior to 135,000 miles or six years.

| Looks like Ford is still trying to sue Navistar and Navistar is targeted with several class action lawsuits over these engines. It doesn't look good for Navistar. | |

| Only 16 plaintiffs in the class action suit? I would have expected this to be much greater in quantity. Being 7 to 10 years many likely decided to short cut the loss and simply move on. Ford is the real winner really. Big PR win and holding out long enough to settle on these terms, no major cost implications. The real loser is unfortunately is the customer. | |

| Around this everyone was having complications with the diesel lineup. IMO it has more to do with the EPA regulations than any of the engines being bad. New guidelines came out and all the sudden everyone had to bolt on a bunch of new emissions crap to their engines. And as soon as they did problems started to plague the industry. It took some time for everyone to figure out how to make things run correctly with the newly required emissions equipment. Remember the gem that Fords 6.0 turned out to be? I understand that the trucks in Canada with the 6.0 are for the most part problem free. And that the only difference between the trucks to the north is they don't have all the smog crap on them. I don't think you can find too many people that would speak bad about the 7.3 but sadly the EPA killed that one. So IMO, if fingers are gonna be pointed, and blame is going to fall on someone, then why has no one filed against the EPA yet. They are perhaps more responsible for all of this than anyone. | |

| The company I work for has two 06 6.0L F350s. Both went almost 200k before having an EGR problem and have since replaced a number of expensive injectors with the trucks being near 250k now. Not bad for reliability, but repairs can be a bit expensive. | |
