The Ford brand has discontinued the high-end Harley-Davidson edition of its F-series pickup. "We don't have plans for one at the moment," said Doug Scott, Ford Motor Co.'s truck marketing manager. "We've got 10 models including a brand-new Limited Model, which was new for 2013. We feel like we've got the market really well covered." Ford introduced its Harley-Davidson special edition in 1999 and continued it through the 2012 model year. But the Harley-Davidson model typically accounted for only 1 to 2 percent of Ford's F-150 mix, Scott said.
Sales of the top-of-the-line Platinum version of the Super Duty pickup, introduced in 2009, have exceeded expectations, he said.
A Harley-Davidson spokesman did not return calls requesting comment.
Beau Smith, chairman of the Ford National Dealer Council and co-owner of Sill-TerHar Motors, with Ford and Lincoln franchises in Broomfield, Colo., said the Harley-Davidson edition pickups accounted for only a small part of his volume.
"With the introduction of Platinum and Raptor it was not a high-volume or high-turn vehicle for us. It won't be missed," he said. Martin Gubbels, owner of Big Sky Ford-Lincoln in Torrington, Wyo., praised Ford's decision to drop the Harley-Davidson affiliation as "a smart business move," because getting rid of such low-volume niche models will "simplify the ordering system." | The HD was the only true AWD system Ford offered in a truck. Did any other manufacturer offer a AWD truck?

| Should have qualified it by stating in current or near recent model years.....
The only one that comes to mind is the Denali SUV's and it was more like an automatic 4wd than true AWD. Not sure how the Ford implemented their claimed AWD in the HD.

| Good, they don't need it any more. When that truck came out is was cool. It was also the baddest and nicest F-150 you could get. But with all the trim levels you can get on a Ford truck now it's just a graphics package they were paying Harley to use the name for. | |
