Of I were to again tow a fifth wheel, I would again go with the Duramax. but Dually, 4X4, crew cab. Last time I ordered my Duramax in 2002, I had it built, took 12 weeks. After rebate 34K. Seems like that was a lifetime ago.

Buddy of mine just bought a 2005 2500HD Duramax from a full time rv'er thats moving into a retirement village. Truck has 135000 on it, but it looks damn near brand new. Interior is spotless, exterior has very minimal scratches or dings. Ext Cab, Long Bed.

The earlier models had injector problems. That is the reason I sold mine at 124,000 miles. They were starting to push smoke. I think by 2005 they had a different injector and easier to replace.

The LB7 was 300/520 from the beginning. The 235/500 was what a 7.3L powerstroke was making at the time. There were derated tunes for medium duty/van chassis but not below 250 HP from what I recall.
Here is the 2001 MT truck of the year article and it states 300/520 as well.
