Maybe GM has a half ton diesel in the works after all. Hopefully they had some half ton diesel skunk works going on all this time. I can't imagine the 4.5L V8 ever comparing well to the other half ton 3.0L diesels.

Maybe the same diesel that comes in the Colorado/Canyon?

That could be. There seems to be a big push for smaller displacement engines. On the other hand, the other 3L diesels would probably tow and haul more if they are meeting those SAE J2807 tow/haul standards.

It will be interesting, I think diesel has made the break through into much of the market.

Well they are putting the 2.8 in the full size vans now. However commercial customers are more in tune with fuel savings and not 0-60 times.
The 2.8/3.0 range must be a global market design. In the us a 3.3-3.5L V6 range might give power figures more acceptable to American tastes and still give really good f/e numbers.
