Best-Selling Pickup Trucks: December 2015

Quote :
It's official: 2015 is the best sales year the U.S. auto industry has had in its history with more than 17.5 million units sold. And much of that success sits squarely on the back of the top-selling segment — pickup trucks.

All the big truckmakers had a strong December, each with their own incentive push; they also benefited from low fuel prices (projected by some analysts to last several years) and a bandwidth of product choices never seen before in the industry.

We'll be sifting through the data during the next few weeks, breaking down the final results of 2015 to find out how the half-ton, three-quarter-ton and one-ton segments finally shook out. As to the midsize segment, both the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon (each completing their first full year on sale) exceeded all expectations, finishing the year selling almost 115,000 units and spurring dramatic growth of a new choice. Of course, the Toyota Tacoma, the perennial leader of the midsizers, sold more vehicles than ever before now that the majority of its production takes place at the San Antonio plant.

For now, we tip our hats to both the Chevrolet Silverado and the Tacoma for having the strongest year-over-year sales success in the pickup truck segment. Likewise, GM takes the throne as the No. 1 pickup maker in the U.S. for 2015 by a wide margin. The F-150 made a strong showing as well, surpassing 85,000 in sales in December for the first time in a decade.
