While taking my two youngest up to their brothers college this afternoon, my 16 say's " hey that looks like the Statue of Liberty, but it's too small". I almost sh*t myself laughing. We have gone by this thing a lot, and he thinks it's not the real one because it looks small. He then looks at the new world trade center and asks if its the Empire State Building. He knew, he was just being a 16 year old. I really hate going up to the city, glad they are all taking the train home Sunday. I had to drive up since it's spring break and all his cloths and guitars are too much to drag on the train.

I think today's kids are a bit different in that many of them live in a "virtual" world. In my day I wanted to actually see what was out there. Still remember my folks taking me to the top of the Chrysler building when I was pretty young and hitchhiking to California (from CT) when I was 20- I wanted to see what the country was really like.

Glad to hear DW is home and doing better. With school, kids, raccoons and everything else it sounds like you have had a really full plate.

There's an understatement.

While there's a ton of awesome technology in front of today's youth, I can't help by wonder how much 'reality' they are missing out on. Their faces are typically glued to their cell phones... even when they are out and about with their friends. It's pretty ridiculous really.

I brought all 3 kids home from college today. The two younger ones had a blast.
Technology is both good and bad as I see it. A few weeks ago we were up to my Father in Law for his birthday (75). On the couch is my FIL, my wife, and daughter. All 3 were on tablets sitting in front of the TV. I just shook my head and walked away. We just drive 75 miles and you want to sit their on the tablets? Crazy sometimes.

Hitch hike from CT to California, I'm impressed. The farthest I hitched was from NJ to D.C. for a free concert. Virtual world is okay for the winter months, but I want to see the states when the weather warms up. Busy know, but once schools out things come to a halt.

I find myself on my phone too much. I try to put it away when I catch myself paying attention to my phone when I should paying attention to my daughter or wife or whatever. I can sit on TTU campus here and watch nearly everyone walking around looking down at their phones.

Our son keeps in contact with his friends across the county on his smart phone. That said, he is a lineman and wants to travel. Wants to work in CA, AK, HI etc. We told him to do it while he is young and can settle down latter in life if he wants too.
