| So we can haul stuff! Your new fangled 1/2 ton might be rated to tow more than my old truck but can it haul this?! 200 pavers 12"x12" @ 17.7 lbs each, 80 lbs of hog feed, 3 pallets and 1 dog. Wish I had the factory overload springs like my '01 2500 Dodge/CTD though. | |

Sure it can. On the trailer towing 3x the pavers - Quote :

On the GMT-800's you could add the overloads to a 3/4 ton. I tinkered with the idea on my Silverado a time or two. With the amount of airbag offerings available, I would tend to lean this direction if it were my choice.

| They were on some GMT400s as well. Some day I need to shop the salvage yards and get a set. | |

| Don't have a pic to prove it, but I've had nearly 6000# of topsoil on the old beast in my sig (a 1/2-ton). That's payload, not gross... | |

No offense but I'd need to see pics of that. You are talking 3-3.5 yds of topsoil to make 6k lbs of weight. My 3500HD has a 8' 3yd dump on it and it's much larger than a factory 8' bed.

My 3500HD has a 8' 3yd dump on it and it's much larger than a factory 8' bed. It's not far-fetched, at all. Do the math. Or, I'll do it for you: Given a 20" bed rail height on an 8ft. bed, and width of roughly 5-1/2ft, you have approx. 73cu.ft. of volume, or 2.7cu.yds. With a damp 5-way mix of topsoil weighing a modest 75lbs./cu.ft., that puts the weight at 5475lbs., and I had it mounded half the height of the cab. A full-size WILL haul 3+ yards of soil, and given the moisture content of freshly blended topsoil, 6k is not surprising.
