The second timing belt replacement and smog for re-licensing hit at the same time.
So
Dex pulled the heads to find the water and oil leak and, we soon discovered that doing the heads and maybe the rings
and still not discovering the cause of the problems would cost more than what we did, which was to install an engine with 50,000 miles on it.

250,000 miles and replacing an engine, that ran fine, did not and does not impress me.

I've talked to a number of courier drivers with many more than 500,000 miles on their small Toyotas.

Stuff happens. Not all engineering marvels like the ICE will have the same longevity. Many different pieces and components with critical relationships and dependencies that are not infallible.

That sucks. It may answer how good the original replacement engine was and/or how capable and trustworthy Dex is.
