These photos were taken in the WW II Museum in downtown New Orleans..
The ubiquitous JEEP grill was invented by Ford. It could be stamped in a second where the original grill took many minutes to fabricate. The government liked that it was substantially less costly.

Ford built the vast majority of them for WW2 also, Willys only built a small fraction. They just didn't have the production capacity to compete.
