Improve Gas Milage?

Anyone done anything to get better fuel economy and, if so, what?

I'm getting exactly what I'm supposed to out of my 09 but I'd like to better it if possible.

Put a bedcover on it and air your tires up to max lbs. Better yet get some tires optimized for fuel mileage.

I have the 2010 with the 5.3L and get an average 17 mpg. I had thought about a chip, larger air intake and different exhaust, but I don't think the money put out would be a break even deal. As Truth said, make sure you tires are inflated correctly as they can add drag to your vehicle and lower your MPG's.

Hypothetical.

26 gallons 15.5 MPG @ $2.20 p/gallon = 403 miles $0.1419 p/mile

26 gallons 17 MPG @ $2.20 p/gallon = 442 miles $0.1294 p/mile

The difference is $0.0125 per mile or $187.50 a year if you drive 15k miles annually.

Getting a 1.5 MPG improvement, something actually consistently verifiable, is in the real world unlikely.  Reality maybe .5 MPG to .75 MPG improvement could be observed.  At .75 MPG improvement would be a $93.75.  Or enough to buy the above vehicle a tank and about a half of gas.  

A tune is typically cost per benefit the only thing that will make a difference.  Key with a tune that comes with additional power is not using the additional power with your right foot, it can be addicting.  

My MPT tunes did help mine some.   Hard to say how much.  .5 MPG maybe slightly more.  MPT does have a sole economy tune for mine that claims 2 to 4 MPG.  It however decreases throttle response, boost.  I haven't tried it.  If gas were $5 a gallon then maybe.

All tunes are not created equal, results may vary.

If I got a tune, my interest would be he additional power for towing. Right now I'm happy with the power while towing, It is not nearly as good as my last diesel, but it works good enough for what I tow. I think what would help even more would be a longer wheel base.

With my 2014 1500's they both get over 20 mpg (hand calculated).  More power and better mpg's, gotta love direct injection!

When your tires wear out get highway tread(HT) instead of A/T or M/Ts.
