| Trident Unveils Duramax-Powered Iceni Sports Car - Quote :
- Fifteen years ago, the words "diesel sports car" would have been considered ludicrous but with Audi's multiple Le Mans wins with its TDI-powered racers, the idea no longer seems so crazy. British boutique automaker Trident is announcing the debut of its Iceni sports car. However, instead of a Jaguar or Aston Martin V-12, the handsome coupe has a thoroughly American powerplant in the form of a 6.6L turbodiesel V-8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. If that sounds familiar, it's because it's none other than a Duramax diesel you can find under the hood of a Silverado or Sierra HD.
In those GM twins the engine delivers between 15-18 mpg, but using the figures provided by Trident, the Iceni delivers an astounding 2000-mile range. We reached out to the company for information on the fuel capacity on the Iceni and received an answer of 135 liters, which translates to 35.66 gallons. Doing the math, that calculates to a rather astounding 56 mpg. We're as big a fan of the Duramax as anyone, but even in a package with presumably half the weight and much sleeker aerodynamics, we have a tough time believing fuel economy more than triple that of the truck’s from which the engine comes. We see a cross-country publicity trip in the Iceni's future. Even if it were to get "just" 35 mpg, that would still translate to a 1248-mile range.
The company is claiming a patented "torque multiplication" technology enabling the remarkable efficiency but gave no further technical details. If the idea of a Duramax-powered exotic appeals to you, be prepared to shell out $161,560. Truck Trend

| It kinda looks like it doesn't know what it wants to be, but I love the concept.
Since our diesel Land Rover outperformed it's gas twin (same engine block and transmission) I've preferred diesels.
