Ever since foreign automakers started setting up manufacturing plants in the U.S. and sourcing components from local suppliers, the definition of what constitutes and "American" car has shifted. The once-easy labels of "Ford, Chevy, and Dodge" no longer necessarily apply. Although foreign manufacturers have made headway on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's American Automobile Labeling Act list, the traditionally defined domestic brands are still firmly represented.

The most "American" truck by the AALA's measurements for domestic content is a three-way tie between the Ford F-150, the Honda Ridgeline and the Toyota Tundra, all at 75 percent.

Sure looks like GM is failing there. Looking at it the other way. I wonder how much Chinese content they all have.

It would only take about 1% Chinese content to turn an otherwise flawless vehicle into an improvised explosive device!

Better call in the dogs!

Should have clicked the NHTSA link and you would know. The Buick Encore has 18% China content and is the only GM vehicle listed with China content. Nothing GM sells in the US is built in China. No engines or transmissions are built in China.

GM produced a greater percentage of NA production in US plants than Chrysler. GM brought production of the Regal from Europe over to Canada and the Encore is built in S Korea. The Sonic is produced in the US, while the Aveo was not. I guess if one wants to know how many jobs left, then maybe they should try some research.

BTW Ford produces a greater amount of their US sales volume in US plants than anyone.

GM car content has continued to fall over the past few years. Every redesign of the cars has less domestic content, ie Cruze/Malibu/Impala.
