We just can't help ourselves. JSOC "advisers" on the ground for two years now. Mind you the CIA is also on the ground enabling these groups providing weapons, equipment, and capability so later we can then publically denounce these rebel groups and commit military to combat "terrorism". The beauty is we get the pay for both ends of the stick. Government gets it's war. The defense industrial base gets its profits. Win win.
Another example of this is the CIA annex in Benghazi. The only reason we know about this facility was because of the attack on 9/11/10. The CIA through the use of contractors (seals, and spec ops) running enablement operations to equip and fund rebel groups to topple the Libyan government. Now Al Qaeda flags flying all over. We'll have to publically fight them or the entire region (ie Syria) at a later date for reasoning being some threat to the US.
They didn't success in Syria initially, but they will keep trying in the region and around the globe insuring we always have an enemy to fight so that there's no reason to downsize our military and spend on the US war machine.

The government also don't want us to know that 400 shoulder fired missiles that can shoot down a commercial jet were taken at Benghazi.
