New Job Empty
PostSubject: New Job   New Job EmptyDecember 23rd 2022, 10:39 am

After 30yrs at my current job, I was recruited to and accepted a position at Atmos Energy's IT dept. Drive into the office 3 days a week, work from home the other 2. They lost quite a few people when they required workers to return to the office in September, so they came after me pretty hard.

40-45k raise over my current salary, depending on their profit sharing goals. Base salary is 30k higher. Matching 401k to 4%, and will also match that 4% in the companies retirement plan. Better insurance, etc...

Going to be a big change, but I just couldn't pass it up.

Good for you. The pay raise will be nice, maybe even get to thinking about a new fifth wheel?
My son is the head of an IT department in a company that is world wide. They are focusing now on AI for their website. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

How far is the drive in from home, better than before?

Mainland India based background check company just cleared me. Couldn't use my SSN to verify anything other than I'm alive, and turned in background info on a Jason E Reed that lives in Arizona...guess I'm glad he's not a criminal or sex offender, or I'd be phucked.

I really hate dealing with India. I get spam calls from them for auto insurance. I keep telling them I only ride a horse. They don't get it.

When do you start with the new company?

January 23rd.
HireRight is the name of the background check company. I read up on them some...enough to see what kind of clownshow they are anyway. No idea why someone like Atmos would bother with them. The HR lady there says around their office the saying is "HireRight Can't Get It Right"

Good luck with that. I know that won't be an easy conversation.

Went better than I thought. He's been there from the start, knows better than anyone we don't pay what we should to keep good people. Was happy for me for the oppurtunity I'm getting and thought I would be crazy to pass it up.

Last day at the job. Oddly enough, I feel nothing one way or the other about it.
Damn few long timers left there. And they are all on the edge of retirement, etc...
Younger generation comes and goes like the wind. None hang around long enough to ever matter. So they don't.

Atmos Energy sounds like a good place to work and nat gas is all the rage these days with Russia pulling the plug.

Congrats on the new job .... sounds like a real opportunity. Around here we're talking about retirement- wife wants retire in the fall or first part of next year. I'm a little afraid to even though I turn 70 this year. I've gotten a little spoiled with two incomes (Social Security and my little factory job) and it's come in handy as the house seems like it's falling apart. Just dumped $250 on smoke detectors .... still gotta install 'em.

I still work 3-4 days a week as a high school substitute teacher. The pay is not bad, small school and I know the majority of the students. The only downside ( and it is tiny) is the restricted internet. While I can log on to this forum, I can't log into any of the gun forums I belong to. Other wise subbing is very boring.

Got a company cell phone that's locked down for company use only, and a laptop the same way. So can't skim the internet there either. Still have my personal cell for that though. Won't connect it to their network so I'm good there. Getting used to Big Corp and their endless meetings. Seems entire divisions exist just to have more meetings.

I just bought my son a coffee mug that reads " I survived another meeting that could have been an email".
