GM has traditionally had higher hp than Ford while Ford went the torque route. Its a diesel so I'm more interested in the tq number by far. Except at this point as I've said before, the numbers are ridiculous now.

Id much rather see 300hp, 600lb ft tq and 25 mpg highway.

tsg, I couldn't agree more. At this point it is all about marketing. The class 2 & 3 trucks would perform just fine with the 4.5l duramax GM developed 10 years ago. It would easily produce 300/600. Pair that with the 8 speed as the base engine on the 2500 and I would would be a buyer.

There needs to be a tweener engine option.
A 6.0 is good for 14.5k towing or a 30k 6.6L duramax.
Our sons toy hauler weights 15k empty but will never approach high 20s loaded.
