| It’s Real! 2019 Jeep Wrangler Pickup Caught Testing - Quote :
- We’ve been talking about the upcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup based on the JL platform for what seems like an eternity, and until earlier this year, before FCA head-honcho Sergio Marchionne confirmed it was coming, it had just been a pipe dream for Jeep and truck fans. Now we have hard physical evidence that there is a Jeep Wrangler pickup coming, spy shots of a heavily camouflaged Wrangler based pickup caught testing.
It’s been more than 20 years since Jeep has offered a pickup and consumers have been begging for a new one since the Gladiator concept was shown in 2005. With the next-generation JL Wrangler expected to debut by the end of the year, the brand is finally adding a pickup back to its lineup that will likely be a 2019 model and available in 2018.
With limited information on the JL Wrangler, besides powertrain options and seeing several spy shots, we know even less about the pickup version. We do know that it will keep the same Wrangler body-on-frame construction, sport solid axles front and rear, and offer three powerful engine options including a turbocharged four-cylinder and a crowd-favorite diesel.
Judging by the spy photos, this is an early prototype with what appears to be a JK four-door cab with a one-off rear cab section and a bed that looks like it belongs on a Ram more than a Jeep, but who cares? It’s a freaking Jeep pickup! With a set of mud-terrain style tires and seven-slat grille, this Wrangler pickup looks like it’s ready for Moab even wrapped in camo.
With a bed that looks like it can hold more than a bouquet of roses, this pickup appears it might be perfect for off-road work, play, or just to haul all your stuff around while still driving a Jeep.
We can’t wait for the wrapping to come off this Jeep so we can see it in all its glory, but it’s going to be a while, so enjoy these cool shots of it testing, and we will update you with any details as soon as they become available. Truck Trend

| It looks like a cobbled-up mule. The rear axle doesn't line up with the bed's wheel opening. | |

| Looks like they slapped a Ram bed on for testing. | |

| I have a scary feeling jeep is going to screw this up by slapping the wrangler pickup on a ifs chassis thus completely screwing it up . | |

All indications so far say Jeep will use the Wrangler chassis, though likely an extended version of it.

| Itd be a pain to keep it clean since the tires stick out so far. | |

| Not holding my breath. A JK based truck should have been out back in '99. Could have had a 2.8L VMI Diesel option along with a Dana 60 rear axle like the military JK8. All these things could have paid for a plant expansion long ago. | |

| Its going to have solid axles. Hood and front end will be stretched a bit so the 8speed auto will fit. Diesel will be an option. It will have aluminum body parts.
Biggest change will be with the removable tops.

| Sorry for the double post. Something went wrong with my browser and I thought my comment didn't get posted so I pressed the submit button once more.

| You've said that twice now.
So, why not?
I'd like a Wrangler truck, if done right.

And that is what has me somewhat concerned.

| Its going to be body on frame, solid axles, with gasoline and diesel power train options. With unmatched aftermarket offerings.
No one else in the market offers that.
The modular roof contraption is what I'm reserving judgement on.

| I would have liked to see it built off the TJ/LJ platform personally. The JK is a little big for a Jeep to me. No doubt the aftermarket will be all over it. Unfortunately the government regs have pushed it into mid-sized truck territory now.
The JK is less the 0.5" narrower than the new Colorado/Canyon twins. The 4 door wheel base has to be close to the short bed CC truck as well.
