Regardless of the swirling issues in the marketplace — the sluggish global and U.S. economies, negativism in the presidential election and uncertainty about the effect of the Brexit vote — most automotive analysts are predicting that 2016 auto sales will be the best we'll see for a while. And the pickup truck segment is a huge contributor to the record-breaking predictions for 2016.
Ford continues to dominate full-size pickup sales with all three of its plants running at or near capacity. Once again Ford has crushed its month-over-month numbers (2016 versus 2015), this time selling more than 70,000 F-150, F-250 and F-350 pickups. On the flip side, the Chevrolet Silverado slipped in June, but this isn't surprising considering that GM is being aggressive about making sure plant production is more in line with sales at dealerships. With average transaction prices up for both full-size pickups and SUVs, even as market share drops, GM is sure to see strong profits by year end. Still, it seems like GM could sell more trucks if it could get more pickups to dealerships. GMC seems to be in the same boat as Chevy: Average transaction prices are up and market share is down.
It's worth noting that the Ford F-Series full-size pickups outsold the combined Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup lineups in June; however, if you add in the GM midsize pickups, GM crushes Ford by almost 8,500 pickups for the month.
Midsize pickups, on the whole, are doing well with both the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon making a strong push; however, the Nissan Frontier — excluding the all-new Honda Ridgeline — is beating all pickup sales on a monthly and annual percentage basis, practically doubling it sales numbers when compared to June 2015. It has yet to pull ahead of the hot-selling Colorado, however. Additionally, the Ridgeline finally made it to dealerships in June; nearly 2,500 were sold, resulting in an increase of 35,214.3 percent from a year ago.
Toyota continues to struggle with Tacoma sales down for the second straight month. Tundra sales are also down, but we know those numbers will likely be lower than 2015 numbers because Toyota is pushing extra Tacoma production at the San Antonio plant where both pickups are produced.

WOW< what did Ford do to get the sales up that much?
Looks like people are also impressed with the new Ridgeline and all the smaller pickups had a good showing.
Ford needs to hurry and decide for sure if they are going to do a North American Ranger again or not.

There's some nice incentives in my area for a 2.7L Ecoboost Crewcab 2016 Ford F150 ($8500).

All indications are pointing to its return. Just a matter of when.

June 2016 Pickup Sales Breakdown
Quote :
The Toyota Tacoma continues its domination of the midsize pickup truck segment, selling more than 15,000 units in June; however, on a percentage basis the vastly improved little pickup is not keeping pace with its competitors. It was down slightly down compared to June 2015 while the other midsizers posted double-digit gains. Still, with more competition and corporate reluctance to indulge in cash-on-the-hood incentives, some folks might be surprised midsize pickups are still selling so well. Toyota has increased production of Tacomas at its San Antonio plant (at the expense of Tundra production) and is likely to sell more Tacomas by year end than it has in many years.
It's worth noting that the new Honda Ridgeline was on sale for only a few weeks in June and is likely to benefit from some pent-up demand for several months. If that translates to 3,000 or 4,000 sales a month, Ridgeline sales could easily pass any previous sales record.
We're not seeing any significant changes in the full-size segment either, as Ford continues to push F-Series' sales to new heights. GM — the only player with a three-truck strategy of midsize, half-ton and heavy-duty — is handily outselling other manufacturers when totaling up its pickup truck sales. By adding together all Chevrolet and GMC pickup sales, GM is outpacing everyone by a wide margin. Unfortunately, that's also impacting half-ton market share because half-ton buyers now have more choices.

It's really something how some want to combine all 6 of GM segments together and then compare to the competitions 2. When in reality each brand, and segment, needs to stand on its own.
Just ask how combining platform sales worked for Olds/Pontiac.
