| 2017 Ram 2500 4x4 Off-Road Package: First Look Finally, A Cummins Power Wagon? – Sort Of - Quote :
- From the time the original (new) Power Wagon debuted in 2005, the first question most journalists asked was “When will it be offered with a Cummins?” Well, now more than a decade later, it’s still gas-only, partially mandated by federal crash standards and the awkward length of the Cummins I-6 compared to the relatively compact Hemi V-8. Although it doesn’t quite go to the level of a full-fledged Power Wagon, the Ram 2500 4x4 Off-Road Package offers many of the Power Wagon’s hardware goodies with the option of the 6.7L Cummins I-6.
Obviously, a factory-installed front winch is not part of the deal. However, to make amends, Ram offers heavy-duty front tow hooks as part of the package. Bilstein monotube shock absorbers help dampen the ride at all four corners, specifically selected and tuned to handle the 2500’s not-insubstantial weight. Also included in the package are Firestone LT on/off-road tires, available in either 275/70R18 or 285/60R20 sizes. A transfer case skidplate helps ease nerves over rocky terrain, as does a hill descent control feature allowing drivers to control downhill speed using the gearshift selector, without having to apply the brakes or throttle. Out back, an anti-spin rear differential locks the rear wheels in tandem for off-road driving, while unlocking for on-road and higher-traction conditions.
Best of all, Ram doesn’t lock you into a specific trim to get the 2500 4x4 Off-Road package. The package will be available on crew cab and Mega Cab configurations of the Ram 2500 Tradesman, SLT, Big Horn, Lone Star, Outdoorsman, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited trims. The Ram 2500 4x4 Off-Road package will be available in the third quarter of 2016. Truck Trend | |
