| First and Only “Corphibian” Amphibious Corvair Truck Up for Auction Experimental Concept Inspired by Amphicar - Quote :
- What can we say, we like oddballs here at Truck Trend. Editor Jason Gonderman’s ’80s-era diesel Ranger should be testament enough to that. However, we can’t think of much that’s more odd or obscure than an amphibious Chevrolet Corvair pickup. Yes, it’s actually a thing. At its January 2016 auction in Kissimmee, Florida, Mecum Auctions is auctioning the only “Corphibian” ever produced. Based on a 1961 Corvair 95 Rampside pickup (a relative oddball in and of itself), the Corphibian was a joint effort between Chevrolet Engineering and the Hulten-Holm Company of Pontiac, Michigan.
Like the Amphicar that inspired it, the Corphibian features a dual rear propeller drive, rear rudders, and remote deck controls to control the throttle and rudder. The vehicle has only 157 original miles and still sits on its original whitewall tires. The vehicle also comes with a signed affidavit from Richard Hulten and Roger Holm from 1995 verifying its authenticity. Other than a freshened red and white paintjob, the Corphibian is almost completely original. This unique vehicle is expected to fetch between $75,000-$100,000 at auction. While we’d love to drive the Corphibian straight into a lake, we sure wouldn’t want to be the ones responsible for sinking this one-of-a-kind piece of automotive history. Truck Trend | |

| Very nice job. I wonder if it gets enough air flow when underway. | |
