| Best-Selling Pickup Trucks: August 2015 - Quote :
- Despite recent analyst predictions to the contrary, overall pickup truck sales are still on the upswing as buyers seem to value the wide variety of choices and technology offered by the full-size pickup segment. And why shouldn't they given that prices at the gas pump remain low and good incentives rest on the hood of certain models?
Among the big winners for August: The Toyota Tacoma is up more than 13 percent over last year as dealerships move a lot of 2015 Tacomas out the door since the vastly improved and upgraded 2016s are set to go on sale next week. Likewise, the Chevrolet Silverado's 1500/2500/3500 trucks sold almost 12 percent better than last year. We should note that with Ford's F-150 plants at maximum production, dealerships are selling more F-Series trucks this month than they have in 10 years. This is the first time this year that Ford has sold more than 70,000 F-Series pickups in one month.
Other things to note: Toyota's two-truck strategy is doing much better than GMC's three-truck strategy, and Chevrolet's three-truck strategy is getting crushed by Ford's two-truck program. Of course, Chevy sells more than double the number of pickups than Toyota, but Chevy also has more than three times the number of dealerships in the U.S. Nissan's aging Frontier continues to nose dive in sales, even though it continues to be the most value-rich choice in the segment. Nissan sold as many Frontiers in the entire month of August as Ram sold on any given Friday/Saturday/Sunday in August. Finally, full-size pickup sales continue to grow for both Chevy and GMC by solid margins, so their new midsize players — the Colorado and Canyon — do not seem to be negatively impacting full-size sales. Sales seem to coming from Frontier and the midsize crossover and SUV segment.
We expect September sales to be even better, and sales likely will continue to increase throughout the fall. However, much will depend on the price of oil and if we'll see less aggressive incentive strategies as we get closer to the end of the year. Some analysts are speculating that we could see end-of-the-year totals well into the 17-million-unit range, with more than half of those vehicles being pickups, SUVs, crossovers and vans. Can someone that understands PUTC drivel help me qualify this statement? Doing better? What's better? The sales metrics breakdown by brands dividied by the number of trucks in each brand? Holy s4!t In the world of business can't see how this qualifies of better, its a stat on the stat sheet. Maybe we ignore the revenue stat now days? Did the person that wrote this have his last job in government? Or does this guy not know that GM owns both Chevrolet and GMC. Why didn't he contrast Chevrolet's three truck strategy against Toyota's two truck strategy? Or Ford's two truck strategy to Toyota's two truck strategy? When Ford adds a third truck that strategy will that lessen the crushing or increase it? Having multiple trucks in a truck lineup appears to be a negative. Might as well keep tacking on how truck based SUV's platforms would tally a four truck strategy Chevrolet and GMC, while Cadillac is getting super crushed with the paltry 1,770 units of Escalade they moved this month. Or is the one truck strategy the way to go? - Quote :

So it's a negative to have more dealerships. Someone tell Chevrolet it's better in PUTC's formulation of good or better to have fewer dealerships, guess there's a benefit here that's not disclosed. No analysis of Ford dealerships to Toyota? No analysis of GMC dealerships as it relates to God knows what?

| I guess it's the whole 'per capita' thing that doesn't mean a row of beans to anyone... other than the PUTC guys. | |

| August's Fastest and Slowest Selling Pickups - Quote :
- Pickup truck sales for the month of August turned out to be pretty good, with Ford setting a monthly sales record for the year with more than 70,000 Ford F-Series pickup trucks sold. Still, GM is doing well with its three-truck strategy (midsize, half-ton and heavy-duty) between two brands (Chevrolet and GMC), crushing Ford's two-truck single-brand strategy: 605,070 GM pickups versus 494,800 Ford pickups so far this year.
When drilling down a bit into the numbers, it's no surprise the Chevy Colorado is still selling well with some of the shortest average days-on-sale numbers around. Some of that is likely due to good deals on outgoing 2015 models to make room for new ones, but the Colorado has been averaging 7,000 vehicles per month all year long, and we don't expect that to change in the near future. Of course, it's also worth noting that the Colorado's direct competitor, the Toyota Tacoma, is also doing quite well. Brand-new 2016 Tacomas are set to go on sale soon as well.
We should remind readers that the information below is based on data from several sources that report the average days on sale for a given pickup configuration — meaning how long it's likely to sit on the lot before it's purchased. For our fastest sellers we exclude models that sell less than 100 units in the month. Also, vehicles like the 2016 Ram 1500 regular cab that just went on sale or the new Toyota Tundra CrewMax don't have enough sales behind them to make them statistically relevant. Removing these exceptions gives us a more realistic look at what's hot and what's not. Our slowest sellers do not have a sales threshold.
As you might guess, most of the vehicles on the slowest-selling list are slightly older models since most dealerships are receiving new model-year 2016 trucks. Be advised: This list is a great resource for seeing where the best deals are likely to be if you're in the market for a full-size heavy-duty pickup. PickupTrucks.com

| Amazing a year into the Colorado/Canyon GM still can't build any inventory. No doubt they are missing some sales, though preferable to heavy incentives simply to move the metal. | |

That is due to GM building it in Wentzville along with the full sized vans. Of which even the full sized vans are hurting for volume.
