| GMC boss wants a Jeep Wrangler rival - Quote :
- Challengers come and challengers go, but the Jeep Wrangler continues to push forward even after vehicles like the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the entire Hummer brand have been shut down. Now GMC reportedly wants to take a stab at the quintessential Jeep, as well.
The news comes directly from Buick-GMC vice president Duncan Aldred, speaking with our compatriots over at Edmunds. Although Aldred said there are no plans currently on the table to expand GMC's lineup beyond the current range, "there is plenty of room everywhere in the hierarchy."
That could include a rival to the Wrangler, as well as a flagship luxury SUV positioned above the current Yukon Denali (pictured above). Just when (or for that matter, if) such models might come into fruition remains a big question mark, but it's certainly interesting to see what GM's dedicated truck brand has on the drawing board. | Boy going at the Wrangler is a long shot. At the Cherokee easy. Call me skeptical. The enticing piece would be the styling. GMC doesn't have the history of the Wrangler. It needs to be unique with appeal, while not being a copy of the Wrangler.

| Should have been done when hummer was around. I'd be very surprised if GM does this, they don't even want to put together a real off-road or sport package for the current trucks.
Probably be based off of the theta(equiniox/terrain) in AWD with a trail ready sticker package.

| GM has already done a lot of the leg-work involved in making a decent competitor with the Hummer HX Concept from the 2008 North American International Auto Show. Not sure what legalities would be involved, seeing as though the brand was sold to a Chinese consortium. Would a Concept go with the brand? Or would it stay with the rest of GMs big box of dreams? | Was the Hummer HX like the H3T based off the GMT355 platform? | |

| I'll believe it when I see it. And I doubt I'll ever see it. Seems like Jeep saying they will make another truck. We have seen the concepts for years but nothing ever comes of it. | |

A 7 yr old concept is DOA with all the safety and epa changes since then. Plus the Hummer sale to the Chinese fell through a long time ago.

Not sure if it was the GMT355, but it was definitely a smaller all around vehicle. From Wiki.... - Quote :
- The 2008 HX show car was smaller than both the H2 and H3. It was powered by a 3.6 L (220 cu in) V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The HX shared with other Hummers a body-on-frame design, with front and rear independent suspensions, four-wheel-disc brakes, and full-time four-wheel drive.

Plus the Hummer sale to the Chinese fell through a long time ago. Ya, I do recall the Chinese deal falling through now. Thanks for jogging my memory. I didn't mean just take the Concept, throw a GMC grill on it and go. I'm just saying it would be a good starting point, rough draft if you will, to develope from. If you want to compete with the Wrangler, you had better be damn close in overall form. Others have tried and failed, as previously mentioned.

| It would take a lot to beat out a Wrangler. In everyone's mind, when you hear the word Jeep there is no mistake of what it can do. I did like the early years of the Toyota J40. | |
