| Ford Releasing Pricing For 2015 F-150 - Quote :
- Over the weekend, Ford released ordering guides to dealers around the country for its totally redesigned, all-aluminum 2015 F-150 pickup truck. As expected, there's a price bump with the new pickup, but it's not necessarily due just to the copious use of the expensive lightweight metal — there's a raft of new standard content for the big pickups at every trim level, delivering a decent bump to value as well as technology. Let's go through the five trim levels to see what the new major standard features are, as well as the price increase expected for each. Destination charge remains unchanged at $1,195.
XL: Base price increases $395
New standard equipment includes:
- 2.3-inch display in gauge cluster - 4.2-inch LCD with MyFord for audio system - Telescoping steering wheel - Two additional speakers - Driver's grab handle
XLT (shown above): Base price increases $395
Adds on to XL:
- Power tailgate lock - BoxLink bed configuration system
Lariat: Base price increases $895
Adds to XLT:
- 8-inch LCD gauge cluster (replaces analog gauges) - LED cargo box lighting - Heated and cooled front seats - Rearview camera - Power folding mirrors
King Ranch: Base price increases $3,615
Adds to Lariat:
- LED headlights and taillights - LED mirror spotlights - Power remote tailgate release - Two 400-watt power outlets - Blind spot warning with cross-traffic alert - Push-button start - Heated rear seats and steering wheel
Platinum: Base price increases $3,055
Adds to King Ranch:
- Inflatable rear seatbelt airbags - Multicontour massaging front seats
The biggest price jump comes for the King Ranch, with a surprising $3,615 increase to the truck's base price. Ford spokesman Mike Levine says that this represents $4,500 worth of additional content. In addition, PickupTrucks.com has learned what choosing some of the optional engines will add to the sticker price of a new 2015 F-150.
- To go from the standard 3.5-liter V-6 to the turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 will add just $495 to the bottom line. - The turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 will run you $1,995, or $100 less than it costs to go from the standard 3.7-liter V-6 in the 2014 F-150 to the EcoBoost 3.5-liter today. - The eagerly anticipated Ford F-150 has had its 2015 pricing announced, adding only a small amount to the pickup's total cost, despite its weight-saving aluminum body. The XL and XLT entry level models only see a $395 boost over the heavier, current-generation, 2014 truck.
The XL starts at $26,615 while the XLT rings up at $31,890. The increase for Lariat is up a similarly negligible $895, to $39,880. Going up the ladder, meanwhile, the leather-intensive King Ranch sees the biggest jump of the F-150 family, with prices increasing $3,515, to $49,460. Finally, picking up the top-end Platinum trim will cost an extra $3,055, with prices starting at $52,155.
The higher prices are being blamed not only on the aluminum bodies, which trim up to 700 pounds of body fat, but on increased levels of standard equipment. While we were expecting a price hike, the fact that the 2015 F-150's volume trims – Ford spokesman Mike Levine told Reuters that the XL and XLT alone cover 70 percent of F-150 sales – have had less than a $400 increase is hugely impressive. Yet today in the news we see that that 35.1 percent of people with credit records had been reported to collections for debt that averaged $5,178, based on September 2013 records.
Is the addressable market for these large ticket items shrinking, and will Americans continue to borrow until they can't anymore?
