Toyota moving US headquarters to Plano, Texas

Quote :
It's official, Toyota is relocating its US operations to Plano, TX. And it won't be a symbolic 'all ranch and no cattle' gesture – the Japanese automaker, whose headquarters have been in California since 1957, has decided to base nearly all of its operations in the Lone Star State, including much of its engineering, finance and sales and marketing teams.

The move, which will see the establishment of a new headquarters campus in the Dallas suburb will not only affect employees at the company's current Torrance, CA Toyota Motor Sales USA campus, it will also touch the lives of thousands of employees at the company's other operations, including 1,000 workers at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America in Erlanger, KY and some New York-based staff as well. The Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, MI is not facing relocation, however, and it actually stands to gain responsibilities as Toyota overhauls its US org chart. Toyota says that its reorganization will affect about 4,000 employees in total.

According to Automotive News, while Toyota is adopting an "'everyone is invited' stance for the relocation," some attrition is expected from employees who aren't interested in relocating southward from the Golden State. For its part, the automaker is reportedly making expenses-paid visits to Plano available to full-time staffers and spouses to help them make the relocation decision, as well as a lump-sump payment if they decide to go through with the move.

The move is expected to realize massive cost savings for Toyota, including in areas of taxation, real estate and employee cost of living. It is also expected to allow for consolidation in areas like human resources, information technologies, legal and accounting. Critically, the move will put the company closer to its North American manufacturing base, which has been increasingly concentrated in southern states, including Texas.

According to North American CEO Jim Lentz, "With our major North American business affiliates and leaders together in one location for the first time, we will be better equipped to speed decision making, share best practices, and leverage the combined strength of our employees."

Most Toyota employee are not expected to make the move to the new campus (said to be envisioned in the style of Apple's eco-friendly Silicon Valley campus) until late 2017, but the first employees will begin relocating to Plano this fall, working out of a temporary location until the new headquarters is ready. Groundbreaking for the new facilities is slated to happen in the third quarter of this year, with construction expected to take a further two or more years.

For the last 10 years California has been ranked the worst state in the nation when it comes to being business friendly. No surprise here another one is packing up and moving out. Meanwhile right to work states are adding jobs. No surprise there either. I cant understand why the bonehead politicians keep driving away job creating industry in order to create revenue for the state. And the politicians cant seem to understand that over regulating business to the point of no profit will cause them to either go under or get out.

There must something that happens to people that causes them to go blind and stupid after they are elected to public office?

Because that's not the politicians interest.  The politician is there to offer the legislative pen to the highest bidder.  For some it's trips, vacations, excursions, campaign donations, hiring known associates to influential private company positions in exchange for appointed positions that can benefit the corporation to push out competition or create a monopoly usually accomplished with public tax payer money giveaways.  Some it's real estate, property, or sweet heart loans at interest rates not available to the public.  Rarely what's stated on a release, in an interview, or on the campaign trail the real initiative that's underway.

Politicians are as disingenuous as they come.  Zero integrity.  Masters of the following: stealing, embezzling, lying, and deceiving the public constantly.

Case in point, no finer example than Jon Corzine.  Former CEO GS, former governor of NJ, former CEO of now bankrupt MF Global.  Stole $1.6 billion in customer account assets.  One day as a customer you had cash and assets, next day it just disappeared.  Just vanished.  No traces.  No charges, no jail time, no beat down by police.  Shortly after, out fund raising for Obama hosting multi-thousand dollar a plate dinners.

There you go.  This is the template for 98% of all politicians.  They get points for lying, stealing, cheating, and purposefully deceiving the American public.  They are rewarded for it.  Greatest country on the world we're told.  All the while the American people on a whole are more accepting of this every day.

Outside of the entertainment industry, supported by a considerable amount of big-time Jewish influence money much like the financial industry and federal government, I'm not certain how any businesses survive in California. The cost of everything is astronomically high. If your business sold or exported product or services from this state to others with lower cost of living one would think the product would be priced too high for the addressable market.

Things could be better in Texas, not perfect here either.

I realize they are all crooks. But you would think at least on the state level, the idiots would not try and drive away and run out the hand that feeds them.

Meanwhile America offered a spectrum of options, or the illusion of choice, the lair from the left or the lair from the right. The trap is the endless meaningless bickering to create conflict and constant diversion from keeping eyes and ears on the real target. Rest assured, in the end, America still gets the choose their preferred liar.

There are well intended outsiders that make it into the system. They are quickly isolated, demeaned personally, and character assassinated, becoming politically irrelevant, as deemed by the left and right power brokers who run a good part of the show.

I would not call it moving as much as I would call it escaping like an East German to West Germany
