Spent 2 days in the hospital: Empty
PostSubject: Spent 2 days in the hospital:   Spent 2 days in the hospital: EmptyApril 10th 2014, 11:03 am

Tuesday I went to the ER since I had been coughing up some nasty stuff and was burning up. I figured if I went to the doctor, he would just send me out for an X-Ray and bloodwork. I was right, found out I had pneumonia. They did two bags of IV with antibiotics and put me in a room for treatments. The place is so noisy, I never got any sleep as a crazy Russian next to me kept pulling out his IV and wire that checks a pacemaker all night and day. Got them to send me home, I'm off till Monday with medicine. I have cough syrup with codeine that I won't take because it just make me feel worse. Could be worse, I just can't stand laying in bed so I sit at the kitchen table. I think it is better on the lungs than lying down and letting all the crap accumulate.

I hate hospitals. You only begin to feel human again once you show them the crack of your ass on the way out.

Get well soon old one.

It's a good day when you can leave the hospital and not have a parting gift (superbugs, MRSA, C-Diff, etc).

Imy appendix ruptured and got really infected, week and half later and I made it out.

close call. it now looks like I got hit by and axe several times in the side they cut me WIDE open emergency surgery.

I tell you what though fellas, when they pull the drains out back through my abdomen wall a few weeks later, I cried like a little bitch

I don't care how tough you are, that will fold you over and make you feel helpless

I can take some serous pain, but THAT was nuts

I can totally relate! Had the same deal with my foot. I guess it's a suction thing. I'd rather be filleted than have those damn tubes in me.

My wife has it too, she is to stubborn to go get x-rays. I'm going to call her father and have him send a prescription to the local place close by. She did the Z-pac of zithro last weekend and says that will cure her. Why are they so stubborn.

A couple of years ago I had some of my upper intestine removed. It scared up badly and tears more if I lift anything heavy. I spent a total of 3 weeks in the hospital and was lucky to get out without any other infectious bugs. That's was on my mind the whole time, leaving with some crazy germs.
Every time I've been in the hospital, there have always been patients that scream all night and day. It's like a mental hospital. I don't know how the nurses handle it.
I would have shown the whole floor my butt crack if it would have gotten me out sooner.
One funny/embarrassing moment happened after I had the 2 IV's which made me very gassy, I really needed to pass gas, but the nurses, all very pretty would stay in the room with me until it was time for an X-Ray. Finally a 20 something nice blond comes to take me away and has me roll on to another gurney. I let one loose that could be heard down the hallway. I covered my face with both hands and even she couldn't help but laugh and said it happens all the time. Maybe. But not to me with a nice looking girl.

My gall bladder tried to kill me in 03, spent a week in the hospital back then. I remember going in and the day I got out. The rest is a blur lost in a morphine induced haze.

Doc on the follow up visit told me I was the 3rd patient of his out of 6 that lived through one that rotten. I have never experienced any pain that remotely close to that, and I hope I never do again.

My oldest son 37 had his gallbladder removed last year. They went in through his belly button and he was discharged a day later. He said he was laying on the kitchen floor in pain when his girlfriend came home and took him to the hospital. A week later, he was back to work. He can't eat certain thinks now and has to have a vitamin supplement.
Tough part for me was sitting there with my ex. Even though we have been divorced over 20+ years it still was hard making small talk. The past is the past, but I don't need to be her friend.

I had 4 incisions, they flushed 20 some odd liters of saline through my abdominal cavity to wash out the rotten mess that was in there. I smelled like a rotting corpse for days. I had blood poisoning because of it, they flew in a bag of some new exotic antibiotics on a helicopter, that's what turned me around and got me through it.

Greasy food to this day will empty my intestines in about 6 seconds if I eat any.

Some foods I liked before I can't even stand the smell of now, and some I hated, I can't get enough of.

Greasy foods kill me know too. Pork is also hard to tolerate.

To the rest of ya, I'm really glad my trips to the ER were self inflicted!

Some were. One time I didn't have a clam knife when I was fishing in the surf and using clams for bait. I used a fillet knife and almost severed my pinkie. Just one of many foolish accidents.

.... +1. Hope you're well on the mend, Rich.

"To the rest of ya, I'm really glad my trips to the ER were self inflicted!" .... I wish.

A few were self inflicted- motorcycle wreck, broken arm, hernia but most weren't ... two open heart surgeries, ruptured appendix, orthoscopic knee surgeries, hip and knee replacements, and a bunch of others ... I've been in the hospital more times than I care to think about. When the big guy upstairs made me he should have put a damn zipper in.

All in all though, I'm glad I live in a time where they can (mostly) fix this stuff. If it was thirty or forty years ago, I'd be dead. If you're still around to complain about it, it's all good.
