I went to the local discount ink print store (cartridge world) but it was still crazy expensive. $50 for 3 of the 4 remanufactured/refilled ink cartridges. I started looking around online and there's another cheaper path.

You can buy ink and refill them yourself. Depending on the brand and style it may be easy and much less cost. I might try it since the store didn't have any black ink jet cartridges for my printer. Just a matter of opening the breather hole and injecting the ink in the plastic diaphragm. Of course you need to be careful of messy ink spills. Best to wear disposable gloves.

There's a few online resources like CISinks.com and DIY youtube videos.

I've heard the markup on printer ink is $1500+/oz.
Printer manufacturers sell the printer at cost and make the money on ink.

I've tried filling the ink cartridges myself one time with no luck. The HP printer wouldn't except it after I filled it up.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.
