Eventful Week Empty
PostSubject: Eventful Week   Eventful Week EmptyFebruary 25th 2014, 10:07 pm

Eventful week:
Every now and then I have my own "Vortex" and it ain't Polar:

* My antique, steam-powered, Soviet computer bit the dust.
It wasn't XP becoming obsolete, it was some capacitors on
the motherboard swelling and beginning to fail, causing
weird, unpredictable behavior.
So I gave my computer guy $340.00 for a prettier box with a
dual-core processor, more RAM and more of the other stuff
that makes this almost pretty-much modern. Ohboy!

* The sliding door, which is the one we use, got dramatically
off-kilter to where I had to lift it to lock it, so today I faced the
music and tried removing it to adjust or replace the front
wheel.
Good thing I couldn't un de-track the door. Eventually,
curiosity got the better of me and I stuck the screwdriver in
the hole, turned the adjustment screw and, in minutes the
door was perfectly aligned.
I knew that, having replaced the wheel; but, dammit, it is
a nuisance not remembering!

* I opened the shower door and the whole thing wound up
in my hand, so to speak.
The door has a 'peg' that fits into a T-top washer that
attaches to the extruded metal door frame, a simple, cheap
and effective hinge.
You just know that, after 30 years there are no more of that
specific 5-cent nylon washer.
Eventually, I bought a pack of "Bi-Folding Door" pivot and
guides, which were the correct size inside....
I reamed the hole in the metal tab so the nylon guide,
that I had to cut to make it into T-top washer, etc.
With the input of the Lowe's guy I figured out the repair, and
it was simple.
That shower sure felt good!

I did one of my shower doors last week, now the other one is making noise and moving rough. I know what I'll be doing this weekend.
