Bullying has morphed into more than simple fist fights. Yes it was more simple when we grew up. Stuff was hashed out, dealt with, then we moved forward.
Today it's long drawn out, politically correct, not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings, no corporal punishment, actually no punishment.
My youngest daughter was pushed off the top of the slide, bitten, rocks thrown and hit at her head and about five or six other incidents from another female classmate in 4th grade. All because my daughter was and the bully had a common friend.
Though all of this, the school wouldn't even mention the other girls name, who her parents were in any communication. Multiple methods of dealing with the situation were instituted, none of them actually did anything but it was an excuse the school could use to say, "we took corrective action." The last straw and offering of the VP and teachers was to move my daughter to another class. No corporal punishment, no nothing to correct the situation. Schools today exude the illusion of action while not fundamentally addressing anything, thus nothing is truly addressed or resolved. In fact this action perpetuates and provides and platform for this action to continue. They are more interested in protecting the institution of school, much more do than taking direct decisive action.
We did two things. #1 She's tough, actually a tom boy but not mean an any way. I taught her how to punch. I simply told her if you understand that your going to be assaulted or hurt again, just punch and keep punching until the the threat is no longer. I understand you'll be the one disciplined by the school and we'll simply roll with whatever comes from it. Enough is enough.
#2 Next school year we transferred my daughter to another school. No issues since. Public school isn't what it used to be stating it lightly.
Bullying has changed, much of it anonymous and spread throughout social media. Here's bullying in the year 2013. Read this and watch videos included. The videos don't auto sequence right, but you can manually play them in the correct sequential order.
