| i have been shopping around for 19.5 tires for my F-450, i really don't have a whole lot of choises, should i go with the expensive tires (Michelen) or should i go with a cheaper brand, i am running Continetals now and they are a good HWY tire but suck when i get off the payment, it seems i am always in 4WD when in grass or fields | |

| There's a lot to be said for a good tire. You get what you pay for. | |

| Don't know if you're familiar with Rickson Wheel, but on their site they have a great (for reference) chart for comparing a number of different brand tires in the size you're looking for. Rickson Wheel - 225/70-19.5 | |

| Personally I like Michelin and Bridgestones. My friend runs them on his Sport Chassis which have 22.5s plus the 5500 Western Hauler w/19.5s. I want to go to the aluminum alcoa type 16s that came on the 95/96 duallies but having a hard time finding a set! | |

| Yeah, I know. The prices are brutal! I've got Goodyear G124s (traction tires) on my rig, and I'd love something with a better ride. But, I got such a killer deal on the wheels and tires, I couldn't pass them up! When these wear out (in about 100k miles ) I'll go a different route. | |

| Michelin tires wear like iron, the one and only drawback I have seen is they are not the best tire when it comes to off road. I've run the LTX M/S and the AT2's. The AT2,s were better off road but you don't get the same smooth road ride. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| yea i had the AT2's on my F-150 man i loved those tires and that is really a big part of me wanting to go back to Michelin, when you say you have seen they are not the best tire for off road what can i expect backing around a trailer | |

| You will get enough grip with the AT2's with the trailer. I towed a fifth wheel with mine and they were fine in grass and dirt roads, better than the LTX M/S IMO. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| well it is intresting you ask, as today i took a load of shantys to NY, and NJ, the 1st drop i had my trailer buried in mud and the truck spinning did not do as good as i exspected but it was really soft on top to, as far as road tires i am really starting to like them they hug the road like no other tire, and i put about 2k miles on them already and they are starting to ride really nice and they have a little hum to them but can't hear it to much, i think i made a good choise we will see how long they last, putting about 60k miles on a year i am hoping to get a year out of each set | |

| Good. I hope they work out well for you. 60K a year is a lot of miles! Business must be good. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

...... that's road warrior territory. More power to ya.... I don't have the inclination nor the stamina to put those kind of miles on anymore.

| yes it sure is, i enjoy it for the most part, but other drivers really get annoying, i know where you are coming from you really have to be aware of what is going on all the time and can get a little hairy with wide loads | |

| I can see you getting another 30-40k out of them. I took one pair off at 80K, still had tread, but after 5 years I wanted to play it safe. Put Michelins on last night $904 for 4 P265 70R 17's. They came across country from Nevada. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| They look exactly like the LTX M/S that I had on my Dodge Ram. 70K warranty, I can't see how one could go wrong with them. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| update; I hit 100k on the tires this week and they are still at 3/32 depth, will be getting new ones before the snow flies, the sad part is I lost 2 of the 4 tires to gashes in the side walls earlier this year, but man what great tires they still grip the road dry and wet | |

| yep it sure does, we will see what happens, I ended up buying 5 tires (3/4 of the tread yet) for $500.00 from a guy who bought a F-550 and will only run Michelins so everything he buys he put Michelins on, so I will see how these tire will compare | |

| I had a local tire dealer tell me that even though he was a Michelin dealer (and would sell me the XDS2's I inquired about), he couldn't recommend them. He said every set he sold ended up having issues, and a lot of unhappy customers. He recommended Bridgestones, which he ended up selling to all his former Michelin buyers. He's had no complaints, yet. | |

| you know that's funny my tire guy told me the same thing about 2 weeks ago but it was on all the smaller tires not the 19.5's is that what your guy told you because I see you have 19.5's let me know because if that is the case I may rethink my decision, and by the way maybe the reason I have had such good luck with these tires is because I rotate them every 5K miles and check the tire pressure every week | |

| If YOU had good results from the Michelin tires then buy another set. What matters is how they work for you, not others.
My dump truck has 19.5s and has Michelins on the rear, no idea on the mileage but they look to have been run through the wringer.
Instead of getting them balanced I'd look into running dynabeads or equivalent.

Yep. It was for the same size tire you're looking at (I'm stepping back a size from what I had previously, 245/70R19.5). The other thing he mentioned was, after about 5-6 years, regardless of the mileage on the tire, I should take a hole-saw to the sidewall, fill the tire with gas, and light 'em on fire. He's seen them start to fall apart in that amount of time, and he doesn't trust them when they get that "old". His suspicion is that there's something wrong with Michelin's rubber formula, and it's just not lasting. Wasn't an issue in the past, apparently (he's been in business for as long as I can remember, and I've been here for 35 years), but over the last decade he's seen a change in their tires. What's crazy is, the Michelins are the MOST expensive tire you can buy in 19.5's. They should be hands-down the best. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the new Chinese manufacturers that are making a big push in the US (Triangle, Double-Coin, etc.) become very competitive, at about 2/3 the price (but, you won't see them on MY truck!).

I think there has been a change in rubber quality for a long time regardless of brand. We had some 40 yr old combine tires that sat outside their entire life and had very little cracking in the rubber. There are some milestar 225/70R-19.5 steer tires on Ebay for $164 each and drive tires for $174 each, free shipping. Would I run these on a business truck like Dan's? No. Would I run them on my dump? Yes. If I keep it the mileage would be <1K miles/yr. First I'd cruise the salvage yard for matched used sets for my application.
