Why Does This Happen to People ?

Some people want to live like that, others are mentally ill, others are drug addicts.

A society is gauged on how it treats the least of it's people.

Private church and private social services charities have been all but eliminated in our country. Managed care and our regulatory environment has all but eliminated most of the charitable hospitals. Heck in some cities it's against the law to provide any assistance to those that are unfortunate. The way our country is going the quantity of people in such conditions will grow.

United States of America. You ask why? Cause there's no profit, no money in helping them. No benefit to corporate interests, ingore it. This is corporatism as it's finest.

If there wasn't money in war, we wouldn't fight so many of them. War is very profitable for those that are in war business.

Heck many of the biggest charities are corrupt to the gills and simply sucker people while providing very little. WWP is a good example.

Nearly 1 in 4 in California are poverty.

I'm sending this from a physical rehab facility ... a split second decision not to turn on a light (so I wouldn't wake my wife who had been ill) led to me falling down the basement stairs two weeks ago ... shattered my femur. Got a long, tough road back but the cold, hard truth is that the only person to blame for this one is the one I see when I look in the mirror.

Damn, that sucks RB. How long do you figure you'll be out of commission with those breaks?

That's rough, heal fast since you will have lots of shoveling to do soon.

Sorry to hear of you fall, get better soon. I had my knee scoped about 10 days ago and although I can drive myself around, it is still pretty boring being laid up. I hope they get you out of rehab quick so you can get home and at least be around your own house to recover. I won't turn on the TV at all during the day, so I have to find something to do around the house that won't hamper the healing. Good luck to you.

A stationary bike helped my knee rehab more than anything else I tried.

That is what the doctor recommended. He also said I could ride my beach cruiser around the neighborhood, but no mountain biking. Mountain biking is pretty much done for me as it is. Also living at sea level, the mountains are a little ways off.

The surgeon said 12 weeks before I can put full weight on it. Got the staples pulled from the incisions yesterday. Still tire easily but I'm making headway.  Pretty lucky all things considered .... scraped up and bruised up in addition to shattering my femur but no spine or head injuries. My existing hip and knee replacements could be reused... a steel rod plus lots of screws and steel plates to patch the femur. They used what in the x-rays look like rebar tie wires where they couldn't use screws.  I get to go home Friday- I "graduated" and can go to the bathroom and wipe my arse all by myself, lol.

DW and some of her friends got the house ready for me. There's a new recliner .... one of the electric ones that help lift you up. A neighbor did a lot of the pre- winter stuff for me, putting garden hoses up, etc. and said he'd take care of the driveway for me this winter.

All in all, I'm counting my blessings .... it's not good but it very easily could have been much worse.

Glad to hear you're getting around, Rich. The boredom part bites but hopefully it shall soon pass.

Good luck with the healing process. I have cabin fever and when the rain stops I am going to the ocean one day and then a few days at different shooting ranges.

Even though it's almost Halloween, no pics, I promise, LOL . Thanks for your and everyone's good wishes. At 61 I don't take my health for granted ... not as tough as I used to be. Still sleeping a lot and it's a PITA to go any distance at all but each day is a little better than  the one before ... it's going to take some time.
