Baja looking pickup truck: update Empty
PostSubject: Baja looking pickup truck: update   Baja looking pickup truck: update EmptyApril 19th 2013, 9:56 pm

While sitting at a traffic light today I saw a truck go by that look like a stock Baja type vehicle. It look like a jacked up Toyota, the bed rails actually curved over the wheel wells. The front fenders flared out. It went by so quick I didn't comprehend what I was seeing until it flew by. Anyone know of a stock truck like this or is it a home made truck? It was all black with a factory look, but like I said, it flew by at 50mph.

If it wasn't a Raptor, it was more than likely a kit... unless some nut is running the streets in a trophy truck. There are a bunch of different manufacturers that offer trophy truck style body kits and suspension components.

I saw one of these (Rally Fighter) up close. Pretty cool but it ain't cheap at $100k. Sort of a kit car, American design, tube frame, you help build it at the factory, many components are off of a production vehicle, street legal, and emissions legal.

What made me notice the truck was the truck bed sides had the fenders raised up above the rails, so above the wheels the rails curved up at least 8".

Not that I have that kind of money, but if you think about it, $100K is cheap for what your getting. I like the idea that you go to the factory and do the build which makes it legal.

It's pretty amazing. I bet the next gen will be even better.

Here's a recent story about one flipping 360 degrees and continuing the race. Bummer, the video was taken down. I would love to see that.

Here's a better video:

Looks like the suspension is a bit too a$$ happy - rear wheels hop a lot. Maybe more rear dampening?

I have to google that. Hopefully it is owned by a local and I'll get to see it and identify it.

I've seen the truck twice in the past 2 weeks. First time it passed on the highway I noticed the bed was custom and over the wheel well it came up about 9" to a point. Today I saw it coming at me and it had a Toyota emblem on the front grill. I wish I could get a good look at it standing still and get a picture. Truck is jacked up with off road suspension.
