Resting and exercised BP were good. Nuclear Stress Test shows that both bypass grafts seem to be working fine. Carotids are clear.

But I did learn a couple of new medical buzzphrases the other day during the yearly sonogram part of the exams....Aortic Valve Calcification & Aortic Valve Stenosis. Nothing bad enough to be addressed at this time, but warrants closer monitoring. But it did explain my recurrances of angina that I've been having for the past few months. Just something I'll have to live with it seems.

Life is a never ending series of curve balls with the occasional fastball to the skull.

Curve and fast balls to the head indeed. Heart attacks and strokes can sneak up on us. My younger sibling had a stroke 2 weeks ago. Those office visits can be the difference.

I went to my doctor on Thursday. This is my GP that prescribes my BP, cholesterol, sleeping meds. I sat in the little room for 45 minutes. The doctor comes in shakes my hand, turns his back to me and asks why am I hear today? Me: my 6 month check up for my meds. Him: Bloodwork from November seems okay, we can only do blood work for your liver as all your other bloodwork looks good. I'll send in the renewal of your prescriptions. WTF just happened was my thought. A checkup is supposed to be more than shaking my hand and looking on a computer! Didn't listen to my heart or lungs. I could have done that over the phone. Time to find a new doctor.

Jason, glad to hear the bypass grafts seem to have taken well. How will the doctor address the aortic valve issues? More tests or come back in a few months?

My last few GPs would have me get blood work done 3 days prior to the office visit so they could review the results with me. Current one won't do that, labs done day of visit and will call in results to me. Another WTF.

They send all the raw data from the tests to some specialists that read and decipher it, I go back later this month to hear the complete results and go on from there.

Some PCP offices are getting bought out by different hospital chains/healthcare companies every few years with poorer and poorer quality of care. The current hospital associated with my PCP is crap and I would never set foot in any of their acute care settings.

I've had the same PCP for at least 15 years and he's relatively good. I call a couple weeks prior to an annual doc office visit to request blood work 1 week before as I like to be involved in the analysis of the numbers.

ER's around here are 3rd party providers. So now you have to watch which ER you go to, because the hospital itself might be in your insurance carriers plan, but the ER isn't.

Its all one huge racket anymore.

I agree with Jason. You go to the ER and they pass you from doctor to doctor and from test to test. You don't know if you are covered or not at the time. But they do make sure they get your insurance information and ER fee while you are lying there in just a gown.

Glad the results are good Jason.

Took my dad to the VA in Temple for a checkup. Didn't see a dr but a nurse practitioner. But we were both impressed with her. She talked slow and gave a full explanation of everything. If she got the hint my dad didnt quit understand she would repeat herself but say it different to make sure he understood. He said he has had good luck with the VA but getting old sucks. His heart showed it was working better but his kidneys and liver are going. Agent Orange and diabetes has taken its toll.

My GP seems like a nice well educated guy but on his survey I filled out i did include that I spend more time with a nurse or the trainee than the actual doctor and that the messages of why I am there either arent being given to the dr or read by the dr. But Im young and I just assume he has more pressing patients and test to look at.

The way insurance companies pay doctors they really can't spend the time needed to give you a good check up. The trick is finding a doctor that will spend time with you. My father in law retired 2 years ago disgusted on how his business was in the end run by the insurance companies. He tried to talk my daughter out of going to medical school after college.

LDL portion of my cholesterol won't go below 100 like they want. They think its some hereditary thing. Thats whats causing the calcium buildup in the aortic valve, and now the beginning of the thickening of my carotids. So they are trying to get the insurance co to pay for some new twice a month injectable meds that will lower it and get a handle on the build-ups...if not, its just a matter of time when the next blockage happens or one causes a stroke.

My current ins sucks Obama balls, and I'm not an illegal alien, so I doubt it will be covered.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the twice a month injections will work. Insurance companies decide what is best instead of the doctor. Keep us posted on this, don't let it bring you down. I know, easy for me to say.

Ins co's should bypass the middle man and we just go to the ins office to be treated there.
It would lower costs across the board.

Doc said they'd try 3mos worth of samples if they had to just to see the results, and use that to go back to the ins co if they had to.

Self-injectable, like insulin, so I have to go back in a few days to learn how to administer the injections and go from there.

Before my father in law retired 2 years ago, I was injecting Testosterone in my butt every two weeks. Needle was 1 1/2". Not the most pleasant thing to do, but it was just the nervousness of doing it looking in the mirror to get the right spot. Typically my wife did the shots but when she goes to Georgia I did them. Now to get the prescription I would have to travel to NYC and pay a big co pay. No one local does them.

I haven't been able to find a decent GP since he retired.

The way the doc described it, its supposed to be some small needle. Said it was no big deal.

Finding an actual American doctor these days is like finding a Republican in California.

My GP is American and terrible. My gastro doctor is Indian and I can't say enough good things about him. He takes his time and really listens to what I say.

My GP retired in January, the search is still on..... I am not going to find what I had, a one man show that would fit you in whenever you needed and was a friend as well as a professional.

Stress Test/Sonogram and a Coronary Computed Tomography Angiogram later this week. Better than a camera up the ass I guess...

Camera isn't too bad, it's the prep that makes it rough.

I'm developing a deep hatred of treadmills. A camera up the ass would probably be a nice switchup.

I haven't had to do a treadmill test yet. About 20 years ago a doctor had me run in place to get my heart rate up. I thought I was going to pass out. Run in dockers and a polo shirt was not to fun.
