Need washing machine help Empty
PostSubject: Need washing machine help   Need washing machine help EmptyApril 24th 2013, 11:53 am

I have a GE front loading washer. It will start to wash by letting cold water in but it is very slow and will eventually drain and unlock with the Pause button flashing. If I change it to hot water wash it fills fast and runs fine. If I run the clean cycle it runs fine so I think it has to do with the cold water valve being plugged it up or something. I took it off and it looked clean and I also cleaned the filter at the bottom of the machine. I did some Google searches but most everything that pops up is a few years old. And I tried running the diagnostic but I cant seem to get it to run.

Any ideas?

Hey Heath!

I'd suggest replacing the cold fill valve. Should be a relatively cheap and easy fix. If, for no other reason, to eliminate the slim possibility that it's not the problem...

My dad had a very similar problem, that cold water wouldn't fill after running through a cold/hot cycle. Only hot would fill the tub. I went over and beat on it for a while. Somehow through starting and stopping various cycles we go the cold to work. He hasn't gone back to a hot cycle again in an attempting to avoid the issue. I'm thinking my dad's problem was or is an electronic solenoid or something.

That was it joemac. I bought the valve system (bc its only sold as a package even though the hot and cold valves do come apart very easily) and now it works like new The guy at the appliance parts place said its usually a solenoid that gets clogged with calcium and other particles and freezes up. Im going to keep the old one for the hot valve and may try to clean it out as a backup. Fixed for $73...not too bad.

Good deal you got it fixed. I've had a similar issue with my refrigerator water in the door. All the crusty build up on one of the piston valves wouldn't get it actuate thus water came out of the door in a dribble. Has a good repair shop come fix it for $160. Where did you source your parts? As I likely need to get off my butt and fix my dads.

It was from a local appliance parts store. After S&H ordering online wasnt much cheaper. It was better to just get it and see if it was the issue.
