Got Wood? Empty
PostSubject: Got Wood?   Got Wood? EmptyDecember 26th 2017, 7:46 pm

Since were going into a cold spell for the next 2 weeks, I decided to cut up some standing dead trees on my lot that I could toss right into the wood stove. Cut the first piece, the Stihl stops and won't start again. I dump out the gas, put in new, sprayed choke cleaner into the carb, plug looked new. There is a guy up the street that is good with small engines so I took it to him instead of traveling to a repair shop that has to make shop labor to fix it.
I then went to a tree service that I normally fill my truck up in the summer and let the wood season in my wood shed. They charge $60 to load as much as I want. Today I filled it up pretty good. The owner showed up as I was leaving and I paid him. We got to talking, seems we know just about all the same people in our area and probably worked together at one trucking company at the same time. He then reached into his pocket gave me back my money and said he couldn't take it. I'll pass the Karma along to someone as it does come around.

World gets smaller all the time. Plenty of ways to pay it forward too.

Now sitting the cold out inside while all the kids are home. Tonight going down to 12F before wind chill. In the next few days it will be in the - digits at night. I sleep less with the stove burning but it is worth it as the room it's in just is too big to keep toasty and cold in the summer time. It's 24' X26' with a 16' high ceiling. Fans in the summer keep it cool with the AC on but in the winter when it goes below 30, the 4 floor vents just aren't enough.

That is a tall ceiling for a residential space.

10 cord at winter's start, only a 950 sq ft house, I'm toasty at 75° the whole winter, not to mention 2 ton of wood pellets and a pellet fireplace insert..

Got Wood? 084

Got Wood? 076

As you can see in the picture taken a few years ago, There are two 6' sliding doors on the wall behind the tree. The second one is about 10; to the right. To the left of the tree there is a 12' Anderson sliding double door. When it goes below 30F, wood stove gets loaded up.
My guess is the original owner wanted the roof line to match.
We added a second floor to the house and the heat from the big room does not make its way upstairs even with two Hunter ceiling fans pushing the air.

I picked up the Vermont Castings stove from a guy whose house I was reroofing with my brother. The owner bought a bigger stove and sold me that one for $100.
