| I don't like the system/rules as a hole but if FCA cheated it, they should pay the price. | |

| Can't really trust either side is the problem. Overzealous agenda driven witch hunters at the EPA vs Corporate Greed at FCA.
Folks who bought the 3.0's stuck in the middle twisting in the wind.

| The EPA has a place, it just needs to be reined back in to do what they are mandated to do, and nothing else.

| FCA will have to pay otherwise VW will complain after they have had to pay the fine for doing the same thing. ____________________________________ Don't believe everything you read on the internet- George Washington.

| FCA RESPONDS TO THE EPA ALLEGATIONS OF EMISSIONS CHEATING WITH RAM 1500 AND JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ECODIESELS - Quote :
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has accused Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) or violating emission standards by cheating. The allegation states that FCA used software in certain diesel vehicles to fool emission testing. The investigation involves more than 100,000 vehicles, including the 2014-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2014-2016 Ram 1500 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine.
EPA representative said that FCA used engine control software that allowed excess nitrogen oxides emissions under certain driving conditions, such as climbing grade and/or towing heavy loads.
Here’s FCA’s response: - Quote :
- “January 12, 2017 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – FCA US is disappointed that the EPA has chosen to issue a notice of violation with respect to the emissions control technology employed in the company’s 2014-16 model year light duty 3.0-liter diesel engines.
FCA US intends to work with the incoming administration to present its case and resolve this matter fairly and equitably and to assure the EPA and FCA US customers that the company’s diesel-powered vehicles meet all applicable regulatory requirements.
FCA US diesel engines are equipped with state-of-the-art emission control systems hardware, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR). Every auto manufacturer must employ various strategies to control tailpipe emissions in order to balance EPA’s regulatory requirements for low nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and requirements for engine durability and performance, safety and fuel efficiency. FCA US believes that its emission control systems meet the applicable requirements.
FCA US has spent months providing voluminous information in response to requests from EPA and other governmental authorities and has sought to explain its emissions control technology to EPA representatives. FCA US has proposed a number of actions to address EPA’s concerns, including developing extensive software changes to our emissions control strategies that could be implemented in these vehicles immediately to further improve emissions performance.
FCA US looks forward to the opportunity to meet with the EPA’s enforcement division and representatives of the new administration to demonstrate that FCA US’s emissions control strategies are properly justified and thus are not “defeat devices” under applicable regulations and to resolve this matter expeditiously.” TFL Truck

| Sergio sounds like a crook in this case. He expected special consideration after taking shortcuts. Any bets FCA points the finger at Cummins?
I guess this confirms why the 2017 Ecodiesels are being held up at the factory.
FCA is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in Mexico. I don't think Trump will be very accommodating.

| If they did it, they should pay just as VW and any other manu did and should.
The EPA needs be a monitoring and enforcement agency and not a rule setting agency. It has far too much power centralized in the executive branch vs where it should be, the legislative branch. Congress and only Congress should make the laws and regulations.

| Its gonna be hard to wiggle out of if its doing what the EPA says its doing.
I'm still betting it goes away under Trumps EPA. They just gave him a HUGE bargaining chip to bring some production back to the States.

| I don't think FCA has the ability to pay fines like VW. If they were cheating on emissions this could destroy them. | |

| True! FCA is on a shoestring budget. Pickups are their cash cow and they are losing out on Ram and Jeep EDs. And it's expensive to move factories and retrain staff but maybe that's the art of the deal. As Pink Floyd says 'kick em when their up, kick em when their down.'
