Anyone Growing a Garden? Empty
PostSubject: Anyone Growing a Garden?   Anyone Growing a Garden? EmptyJuly 18th 2017, 8:26 pm

I haven't had a garden the last few years so this year I planted a small 8' X 5' . I have 3 different types of tomatoes, squash, and zucchini. All are producing fruit right now. Tomorrow night I'm going to fry them all together in some olive oil with onions and garlic cloves. The other night I made fried zucchini, garlic and spaghetti.

I miss having a small garden. Regular vegatables like what you are growing would be done around here by mid June due to the heat, but peppers will produce all the way to the first freeze.

Maybe next spring, I can get another one started. You can't buy the taste of home grown vegatables.

It has been a while since I had one and every year I keep saying next year. Two of my brothers have elaborate gardens and grow a lot of different vegetables. Next year it will be bigger. I expect to get tomatoes till mid September.

I used to but my current house has poor soil in the back and way too much shade. I tried the first two years we were here but nothing helps bc of the shade.

I have plenty of sun, but our soil here close to the ocean is not good for a lot of crops. If I dig down past 12" I get sand. When you get half way across the state the soil gets better for farming. Most of South West Jersey is farmland. In my area, tomatoes are some of the best in the country. We are also known for being the capital of blueberry farms. Cranberry bogs are also in abundance. We can grow peppers, string beans, potatoes, carrots, squash and a few others but are somewhat limited due to soil conditions. I have to water everyday as the water runs right thru the soil and sand.

Do raised garden beds in areas of poor soil.

Raised gardens was my intention. I procrastinated too long and had to plant before the seedling got too big. Next year. I want to use cedar so the wood won't rot to quick.
