Job Searching Empty
PostSubject: Job Searching   Job Searching EmptyJuly 25th 2016, 6:51 pm

I've been at the same place now for right at 24yrs. 4 or 5 years back, one owner sold out to the other and retired. Then the remaining owner died, but before he did, he left it all to his son, that was always a do nothing, ego driven ass.

Forward to now, Mr. Ass has over leveraged himself, driven off big long time customers, run off anyone that wasn't a yes man, etc....
Raises have become non existent due to everything above and its become unbearable to remain in place. As much as I hate to start over, its down to that or make them fire me. I'm not quitting and walking away with no unemployment, the only way you get that in TX is to be fired or laid off, and only if they don't win if they contest it.

So I have started in on searching for a new job. Which is 100000 times different than it was 24yrs ago. I've gotten one response from one place so far and have taken some "Prevue Assessment" psychometric crapola...who knows WTF they are looking for on that....

Anyway, the job search has begun. 48 and have wasted far too many years here out of an outdated idiotic sense of loyalty that no longer means shit for shinola in todays world. Whatever next job I take, will be one that pays me what I am worth. Too late to settle any longer.

My advice to the younger generation, you are nothing but a number on a ledger, an expenditure, gone are the days you were looked upon as an asset to a company. So become just as heartless and ruthless as the people writing the checks. Don't settle for their crumbs, get every single dime you can, and if more isn't forthcoming, haul your ass and get it somewhere else. Be loyal to yourself and your family and absolutely fuck the rest of them. You owe them nothing. Not even one micro second of guilt. Or even better, start your own company and do it your way. Don't waste 24yrs chasing an empty promise that "yours is coming, the corner is almost turned, just give it one more year...." It's all bullshit. All of it. Go get yours, because no one else will.

Good luck to you Jason.
That is the same advice I gave to my son. He put all his eggs in one basket when the Federal Reserve called him asking if he wanted a job after graduation. The money was good and advancement was part of their plan. He stopped sending out resumes, and guess what? They didn't hire him and now he is put out resumes every day, usually at least 3 a day. Most don't let you know anything, Google did, and some of the other big ones.
Hang in, it will work out.

That's the part I hated the most about job searching, you never know a dang thing after you hit submit. Did they get it and are reviewing it, did they get it and immediately deleted it, not get it....? Out of the dozens I have put out I have gotten back less than a handful that actually let me know the outcome of my attempt. Its such impersonal BS now!

I helped start the injector shop because I didn't want to rely on an employer all my life just to then hope Uncle Sam doesn't screw my out of my retirement account or SS. Its not doing so well right now but at least I tried and will keep on trying.

Good luck! It aint easy but life's so much worse if you spend over half your awake hours at a job you hate.

There's a lot of BS job marketing out there. I took a two year leave of absence from work and just traded stocks, options, futures and recently thought about going back to work. Summer with the kids in the house will do that to you. Anyway, I saw an interesting job on HireArt and submitted an app and it turned out to be BS. They asj questions, you do some videos answering those questions and then you never hear back from them regarding the original desirable job. Instead, they pelt you will crappy jobs to apply to. Apparently they get a finders fee for having candidates apply to less desirable jobs they advertise for. After 6 weeks of no response I told them to delete my app.

So in the last 4 weeks I saw an opening on my old team at my previous employer, I interviewed and I'm a tax payer again. I'm not into social media or linkedin and so far it hasn't negatively impacted me.
I'm sure it would if I was graduating and looking for my first job.

I try and take good care of the people who work for us, but as a smaller company and small business owner, it's tough sometimes. we don't have much turn around at all though.

we tend to make up what we can't pay in salary in flexibility and no micromanagement BS, and a very relaxed work environment.

so the people who just want a max dollar and nothing else I can't keep. We attract more of the people who value more of a work/life balance. Nobody is getting rich in our line of work anyway LOL.

it's tough out there sometimes, but we are only as good as our team.

It would take about 2 seconds of an ego check to make things better around here. I guess when he's standing in bankruptcy court getting is ass handed to him, he might see it then.

But I doubt it.

Repeated boat oar strikes to the face is what it will take.

He told me to "shut up and just deal with it" when we had the conversation a few weeks back.

I got up and walked out without saying a word.

But when I leave, I'm gonna chunk a deck of cards in his face and tell him "It's your deal Chickenshit, shut the fuck up and deal with it."

If I was 20 and not married, I would have jacked him in the jaw and tried real hard not to piss on him where he laid. It's a bitch being old and responsible. The rewards are fewer and farther in between.

At the end of my last job I used to get pissed at myself for biting my tongue and not laying out the boss. As much as I wanted to, common sense told me it would be about 3 seconds of satisfaction and a few years fighting law suits.

Been looking for a new job myself. Being picky myself, since I have a job now. I won't just take anything. Looking for a place to stay until retirement.

That's my deal too, 48 now and looking to get to retirement somewhere.

Ideal situation would be getting a job far away from DFW and out in the country somewhere. If I could make a living way up in the mountains, I'd move today.
