| America's work truck reinvented: All-New Ford Super Duty is toughest, smartest, most capable Super Duty ever.Source: Ford Media - Quote :
- Toughest: All-new, high-strength steel frame; segment-first, high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body; stronger axles, springs and suspension create the only Built Ford Tough heavy-duty truck lineup that works as hard as Super Duty customers
Smartest: 16 class-exclusive new features and up to seven cameras make Super Duty the ultimate tow vehicle; adaptive steering technology makes maneuvering easier
Most capable: Ford-engineered, Ford-built gasoline and diesel engines and transmissions power all-new Super Duty lineup that tows and hauls more than ever
DALLAS, Sept. 24, 2015 – Ford, America’s truck leader, today introduces the all-new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty – the toughest, smartest, most capable Super Duty truck lineup ever.
“Ford Super Duty is the truck America’s hardest-working men and women trust and depend on,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, The Americas. “We are helping these customers build a better world by delivering a new generation of pickups that set new benchmarks in capability, performance and efficiency.”
Using advanced materials to reduce weight, 2017 F-Series Super Duty pickup truck and chassis cab feature all-new, segment-exclusive smart technology to help increase customer productivity, comfort and convenience.
“While Super Duty is America’s best-selling heavy-duty truck, we never take our leadership for granted,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development and chief technical officer. “Our team is using relentless innovation in materials, technology and Built Ford Tough engineering to deliver customers our best Super Duty yet.”
Toughest The backbone is an all-new, fully boxed frame comprised of more than 95 percent high-strength steel that offers up to 24 times stiffer than the previous frame – enabling the most towing and hauling capability ever delivered by Super Duty. The new truck line features heavier-duty four-wheel-drive components, driveline, axles and towing hardware.
For the first time, the Super Duty body uses high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy, which is more dent- and ding-resistant than the outgoing steel body and not subject to red rust corrosion.
Together, high-strength steel and high-strength aluminum alloy help reduce weight by up to 350 pounds while Ford is reinvesting additional weight savings everywhere it counts, to give customers more towing and hauling capability than ever before.
Super Duty chassis cab features an all-new, high-strength steel frame with an open-C-channel design behind the cab to enable easy aftermarket body upfit and modification.
Smartest Towing is core to the Super Duty mission. All-new advanced coaching and camera technology makes conventional and gooseneck/fifth-wheel towing easier and more efficient than ever.
There are 16 segment-first new features – from LED lighting to adaptive cruise control – that assist Super Duty drivers to make driving and work situations easier and more comfortable.
As many as seven cameras help customers see more angles and monitor conditions surrounding the truck, and provide better trailering than ever before.
A center high-mounted stop lamp camera provides visibility into the cargo box, especially for easier hook-up of gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailers. A 360-degree camera system uses four digital, high-definition cameras to give the driver a bird’s-eye view surrounding Super Duty. Trailer reverse guidance provides visual cues and tips to help ease backing up a trailer. A first-ever, factory-available trailer camera can be attached to a trailer to improve visibility backing up.
Customers will benefit from a segment-first, in-cab trailer tire pressure monitoring system from the comfort of the cab while stopped or on the highway.
Adaptive steering provides for increased confidence to help make towing the heaviest of loads easier and brings greater ease to navigating job sites and parking lots – with or without a trailer. The technology reduces the amount of steering input needed to change direction at low speed, while reducing sensitivity to steering input at higher speeds.
The all-new F-Series Super Duty is available with numerous driver-assist technologies:
SYNC® 3 – Ford’s all-new communications and entertainment system features faster performance, conversational voice recognition and an easier-to-understand graphical interface, along with an intuitive smartphone-like 8-inch touch screen
Blind Spot Information System with trailer tow is optimized for Super Duty to include the length of the trailer; BLIS® uses radar sensors in the taillamps to monitor areas that may not be visible to the driver
Lane departure warning provides a warning when a driver strays from a lane through a series of steering wheel vibrations that mimic rumble strips
Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support use sensors to detect slower vehicles moving in the same direction. If another vehicle is too close, red lights flash on the windshield and a warning sound chimes. If the driver does not hit the brakes, the brake system is pre-charged to stop faster when the brake pedal is pressed
Advanced light-emitting diode technology sheds light all around the new Super Duty, including:
New LED sideview mirror spotlights enable illumination surrounding the truck to light up a work site or camp site
Class-exclusive quad-beam LED headlamps and taillamps
New LED cargo box lighting
Most capable Light-weighting and improved capability work hand-in-hand in the all-new Ford F-Series Super Duty.
“As we remove weight, we’re making Super Duty more productive by giving our customers better towing and payload capability,” said Craig Schmatz, Super Duty chief engineer. “We’re backing up improved capability with a stronger gasoline and diesel Super Duty engine lineup.”
The second-generation Ford-designed, Ford-built 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 diesel engine is available for pickup trucks and chassis cabs providing the highest combination of horsepower and torque ever.
The 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine comes equipped with the new TorqShift-G transmission for the F-250 pickup – allowing for improved capability.
The Super Duty chassis cab lineup offers a choice of 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel, 6.8-liter V10 gasoline or 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engines.
“The bottom line is Super Duty customers will be able to tow and haul more than ever before,” said Schmatz.
Interior and cargo box All three cabs – Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab – are longer and feature a new interior design, including dual compartment glove box, overhead console-mounted auxiliary switches to operate aftermarket equipment, and completely flat SuperCab and Crew Cab second-row floors that make loading large items in the cab easy. Vital controls are close at hand, with the integrated trailer brake controller switch located even closer to the driver.
Customer accessibility and ease of use extend outside the truck as well, with the cargo box offering customers these class-exclusive features:
BoxLink™: Ford-patented combination of metal brackets and custom cleats that can be used to secure a variety of accessories in the cargo box
Remote tailgate lock and release: Tailgate can be locked/unlocked and opened with the key fob, eliminating manual locking and increasing convenience and security. The tailgate is damped – dropping gently down, hands-free, to a flat position when opened
There are five models in the Super Duty lineup – XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum.
The all-new Super Duty will be built at Kentucky Truck Plant, and goes on sale late next year.

| Not sure what to make of that design chaos in the grill headlight area. Overall silhouette footprint looks Ram'ish, more prevalent in the long bed. Chevrolet got reamed for years with the grill horizontal bar. Ford said we'll do two. Really going to enjoy the refresh here in a few years when they shove in three.
The tail lights were intimidated by the size of the headlights and took a dump truck load of steroids. Guess they're getting their monies worth on a chance to change form using the circa 1999 lights for 17 years.
No mention of powertrain. Guessing nothing noteworthy, else they would be promoting it.
Not to be outdone by the size of everything, Ford thought no one can read block letters that were 3" tall, increased the font size of everything. The tail gate of the KING RANCH, SUPER DUTY, FORD logo, King Ranch log is only missing a couple NASCAR stickers for balance.
The front end not wanting to be outdone by the stamped letters on the tailgate, said we got our own game, and stamped SUPER DUTY into the leading edge of the hood. Gawdy gimmickry is the first though.

| I saw that in the release earlier mentioning the TorqShift-G transmission. Didn't find much on it, though I didn't try very hard. They're claiming "significant". Conservative 5%? | |

| Don't care for the grill and while the fender vents don't blend the best I can give them a pass since they appear to actually be functional.
Rest of the truck looks pretty good. If I were to buy one I'd black out the chrome on the fender vents, maybe the grill or find an aftermarket grill with less chrome.

| I'm sure there'll be a trim level with a blacked out or monochromatic grill. It's too popular not to offer one. | |

| Wow, that thing is over the top. Agreed about the comments on the front grill. The interior electronics give me the chills. With all those sensors and electronic systems, I can't imagine how expensive it would be to repair out of warranty.
I get that these vehicles are somewhat exempt from reported fuel economy but I'm surprised Ford hasn't given up on the need to be the tallest pickup with today's fuel economy requirements. Late model Ford HD pickup cabs have always been excessively tall and now it looks like they made engine hood even taller. Get a load of that blue rig with driver - looks like there's about 1 ft or more headroom space available to the roof. And then his line of sight over the tall hood eliminates too much roadway vision. Maybe it's planned obsolescence with Ford wanting to sell camera sensors with driver display to see through the hood.

| The sight lines out of the current GM HD's aren't good either. They've raised the cowl height and increased the grill where you can't see something 15/20 feet in front of the truck. Like stated Ford appears to have done this as well with the SD. Gives off a feeling of claustrophobic. Why? The need for a yet larger grill? Completely understand that the power these things produce needs cooling, though is the entire frontal grill area a requirement for cooling? Seems they could remove some bars and leave the ever increasing grill footprint to someone else.
The ability to see out and around the vehicle was one of the things I liked about the GMT-800 and my current F-150 (the rear not so much). Visibility makes it easy to judge distance. I guess this lack of designed visibility is part of the justification for the 360 degree camera systems that are coming out on many vehicles today.

| Aerodynamic looking it is not!!!
It's certainly a complete redesign and I like it overall. But I'm also scared of the 1000 miles of electronics it seems to be loaded with. And I didn't realize they still offered the 6.8L V10.

| I think the fender vents would blend better if they didn't have the F2/350 numbers there. Wonder if they are simply adhesive backed that can be easily removed? | |

| Why are they revealing the 2017 in 2015? If the 2017 is so much more advanced, 2015 and 2016 sales could be adversely impacted.

| 2017 Ford Super Duty Boosts Power, Payload and Towing - Quote :
- It's almost as predictable as the sunrise: The debut of a new heavy-duty pickup truck in the U.S. market means a reset on max towing, max payload and max torque.
Not long from now, we'll be driving several trim levels of the all-new 2017 Ford Super Duty, and just ahead of the first media drive, Ford has announced the truck's power and performance numbers, so here they are:
Max Towing
The 2017 Ford F-450 SuperCrew dualie, when equipped with a gooseneck hitch, will tow 32,500 pounds, 1,290 pounds more than the previous HD champ, the Ram 3500 at 31,210 pounds.
The max rating for the F-450 equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch will be 27,500 pounds, and with a conventional bumper hitch setup the max rating will be 21,000 pounds — several thousand pounds better than its previous limits.
The maximum gross combined weight rating — meaning the combined weight of a trailer, the pickup and cargo, including passengers — is now 41,800 pounds, or about half the normal capability of a long-haul semi-truck.
Max Payload
As you might expect, payload numbers are up across the board as well, with the maximum weight-carrying capacity, depending on trim and configuration, of an F-350 right at 7,630 pounds, with the F-250 capacity maxed out at 4,200 pounds.
Max Power
Both available engines (the 6.2-liter V-8 gas and 6.7-liter V-8 Power Stroke) will have new torque ratings as well, with the 6.7-liter diesel rated at 925 pounds-feet and the V-8 gas engine at 430 pounds-feet. Both engines will benefit from an improved and strengthened factory TorqShift six-speed transmission.
Super Duty Body
As a reminder, the all-new Super Duty will use the same aluminum-body technology first seen on the 2015 F-150, creating similar weight-saving results. In fact, on many configurations, the cab for the F-150 and Super Duty will be nearly identical. However, where the F-150 primarily used the weight savings to increase fuel economy, the Super Duty put most of that saved weight right back into a stronger frame, suspension and axle.
We'll have more details, our drive impressions and a full set of videos after we drive this newest competitor in the full-size heavy-duty segment. PickupTrucks.com

You know now that Ford has increased the power and revealed their numbers the other two will tweak theirs to continue on the pissing match.

Might as well have Dr. Evil announce "1 BILLION pounds!" of towing capacity.
