Parts not made to last Empty
PostSubject: Parts not made to last   Parts not made to last EmptyJuly 15th 2015, 4:46 pm

Last November, they 08 Yukon came up with a check engine light. I plugged in the OBDII and the code said emission evaporation solenoid valve. this was at 65K miles ( I don't know when the light actually came on as the wife mentioned it in passing stating it went on a month earlier when she was in Georgia). It cost about $80 to replace the entire section from the vent plug to the solenoid valve and into the gas tank. Fairly easy job.
Sunday, while coming home from Costco, the 2010 Silverado came up with the check engine light. Plug in the OBDII, same code. This time only the solenoid valve and filter end come in the kit and I had to use the same hoses unlike the part for the Yukon that was complete. Both AC Delco parts, these ones ran me $100. I parked the truck on ramps and let it sit overnight as the filter end sat directly above the transmission. Much longer length of hose than the Yukon, and with the Cat and exhaust pipes there was no way to do without burning yourself.
My complaint is that these parts were replaced at close to the same mileage at each vehicle. Looking at youtube, people were saying they have replaced them 2 times already with vehicles under 100K miles.
I noticed the valve seemed to go bad on a lot of different brand vehicles while watching youtube for the tip on repair.
This is caused by topping off the gas tank after it clicks off. The station thinks they do you a favor by giving you a little extra. We can't pump our own gas in NJ, but we can pump diesel. We pay the same for gas or lower than the other 48 states that pump your own fuel.

Did you notice the infamous 'Made in China' logo stamped anywhere on those parts?

Engineered Obsolescence. If only our politicians were so equipped.

Made in Mexico. I still have the baggie the plug from the Yukon sensor came in and it is the same part number of the one for the Silverado, both made in Mexico.

Exactly. Everything is disposable instead of repaired. My 2002 Durmax seemed much better made than my current truck.
