Ford is expected to announce today plans to offer the 2016 F-150 full-size pickup with a package that prepares it to be powered by propane or compressed natural gas, an option that appeals to fleet buyers.

The $315 factory-installed package would allow an F-150 with a 5-liter V8 to run on propane or compressed natural gas, making it the only half-ton pickup with that capability. The customer must then take their factory-prepped truck to a qualified vehicle modifier to install the proper fuel tanks, fuel lines and fuel injectors. The cost of the upfitting ranges from $7,500 to $9,500.

Dealers will start taking orders this summer; the truck goes on sale in the winter, said spokesman Mike Levine.

To run on the lower-cost gases, the trucks need an upgraded intake and exhaust valves as well as other modifications.

"We surveyed customers likely to use natural gas or propane, and 72% told us they want to have these alternative-fuel capabilities available on F-150 with the 5.0-liter V8 engine," said Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager.

"We expect the gaseous-fuel prep package will be even more popular than it was on the 2014 F-150 with the 3.7-liter V6 engine," Coleman said, noting the fuel does not change towing capability or payload beyond subtracting the weight of the installed CNG or propane system.

Silverado Bi-Fuel CNG

Quote :
DETROIT – Chevrolet will expand its compressed natural gas lineup to include the bi-fuel 2016 Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab, allowing drivers to operate the vehicle on CNG or gasoline. Bi-fuel will be available on the regular cab in both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains starting in the fourth quarter.

Silverado 3500HD has a proven reputation as the ultimate work truck for fleets, many of whom are looking to reduce emissions and save money at the pump.

The 24.5 gallon CNG tank, located directly behind the cab, in addition to the 23.5 gallon gasoline tank on the Silverado 3500HD gives drivers fueling flexibility and optimal range between fill-ups.

All of the CNG fuel systems are warranted and validated by Chevrolet. For qualified commercial and government fleet customers, the five-year/100,000-mile (whichever comes first) powertrain limited warranty covers the CNG fuel system and its components. For all other customers, it is covered under Chevrolet Complete Care five-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. As part of Chevrolet Complete care, both fleet and retail customers also receive two years/24,000 miles (whichever comes first) of scheduled maintenance.

The Silverado 3500HD Chassis Cab joins the bi-fuel Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD and the dedicated CNG full-size Chevrolet Express and vans.

No word from Chevorlet on the cost for the CNG option.

All of our Natural Gas Companies fleet run on natural gas here. It makes sense as the get it cheap. One problem is you don't get the same BTU out of natural gas so you won't get as good mileage as with gasoline.
