Would a 30-percent discount make you consider a Chinese car?

It seems inevitable that eventually a Chinese auto brand is going to live up to its promises and actually sell cars in the US market. Given the stigma that some buyers have towards the country's products, though, questions remain about how to lure customers into dealerships. Would a 30-percent discount compared to segment rivals be enough to get you interested?

If your answer to that question is yes, then there might reason to look forward to the arrival of the Guangzhou Automobile Group Motor Company (GAC) here. Wu Song, the automaker's US general manager, laid the strategy out to Automotive News. "Considering the low price, it should be competitive," he said.

According to Song, the company's first US product is slated to be the GS4 crossover, and GAC has a goal of putting the crossover on sale here by 2017. In China, the CUV is offered with 1.3- or 1.5-liter turbocharged engines and is priced at the equivalent of $16,245 and $24,088, according to Automotive News.

Of course, the huge hurdles remain of finding dealers to actually sell them; not to mention all of the necessary government certifications. GAC has been taking baby steps towards greater international recognition for a while, though. The GS4 actually debuted at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show, and the company's vehicles appeared in Transformers 4. Song told Automotive News that he's "90-percent confident" the company can launch its CUV in the US.

My opinion... I'm sure they'll have no problem selling their vehicles here. If you consider the lack of quality in a vast number of Chinese goods sold at Walmart, people buy that shit up in hoards purely based on the price. Quality, or where it's made, means nothing to the masses. Ya, real car/truck guys will be weary, but we are a big minority.

We in the US used to have American's.  Now we have citizens.  There's no pride, no assimilation, no loyalty in buying what it is we and our neighbors do for a living.  Not a thought else-wise.

30% discount, throw away cars.  It will go over like gangbusters here in the US.  Stupid citizens tripping over themselves to send more wealth to foreign lands.  These same people have the gal to complain, "Where's the jobs?"  Stupid citizens.

First time I heard a political leader tell us it's a global economy was George H.W. Bush.  Thanks.  More thanks to Bill and Al making fun of Ross over NAFTA.  Look how well that's worked out for us!  Thanks soon to Obama for the all secret, but good for the country, TPP.

Country doesn't have long left.  We're well past our halfway point.  It's going to be a short country experiment.  If we make it 300 years, that will be on the back of some miracle, or some speed bumps to soak ever last dollar from the people.

No but many will regardless of quality.
Just look at the Rhino clone UTVs. We could get employee pricing on a Hisun 700 variant for $8100 out the door with winch, top, windshield and doors. After test driving it I'd rather pay the $10,800 for the Honda Pioneer 700. Worlds difference in ride, handling and noise. Everything on the Hisun was noisy, engine, plastic, intake drone etc.

We are driving Chinese cars now...they just happen to be assembled in the US and named Ford, GM or Chrysler.

It's all a shell game, import a box of parts from China, put it together with an illegal alien here to make one part. It's magically made in the USA. Meanwhile, an actual American never touches it until they buy it.

Free Trade is all one way...They get all the perks, we get the sewerage and byproducts left over.

And we wonder why people in the inner cities can't find jobs.

It appears the mindset isn't the inability to find jobs, many simply don't want jobs. Nor do they want to go to school. Nor do they want to participate in a civilized society. They immortalize the NBA, rap stars, gangsters. Sorry but that's only going to take a person so far and in a direction that possibly doesn't conform to the baselines of what society deems acceptable.

The excuses are growing long, way long. If an ethic minority can become President, Secretary of State, CEO, Head of the DoJ, DHS, ATFBE, news anchor, teacher, firefighter, police, congressman, military, doctor, lawyer, pilot, software developer, sorry the excuses are unfounded.

Sorry life is what you make it, there are opportunities for everyone. Its what the person decides to do with the opportunities and how vested they are in squeezing every ounce of value from opportunities.

Now if you apply for the CEO position with your pants hanging at your knees, tattoos scattered, gold chains, that's likely not acceptable personal presentation for the position. Civilized society has set the benchmark and the expectation level of qualification. Not government, not another person.

Fixed it for ya.
Free for all cities like Mogadishu are societies but not sure I'd classify them as civilized, at this point.
