PostSubject: Computer geek help   Computer geek help EmptyApril 19th 2015, 3:43 pm

I need some help from those of you that are computer literate. I am trying to run a program on a computer that is used to run a auto part tester.  I tried running it on a laptop with Windows 7 and also on one with Windows 8.1. Both come up with the same error. "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.  If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately." And then below that it says "Positive number required. Parameter name: BaudRate"

Any idea what the issue is? Is it a bad line of code or maybe a faulty cable In the machine? USB cable?

Right click on the program icon, then properties, then compatibility, then put a check in the "run this program in compatibility mode" and select Windows XP--see if that works.

It also could be looking for an actual comm port on the PC itself.

I tried compatability on all version of Windows and same issue on all. Same error. I wouldnt expect it to be an issue with the computer port since the issue is coming up on two separate computer's.

Most new PC's/Laptops don't have the old 9pin serial comm port. And if the program is looking for one of those, it wont work on a PC/Laptop without one.

How do I tell if it's a right port or not? Can I tell just by sight?

The equipment from a new design. This is only the 29th to be built. So it is new but built in Turkey so that may be the issue. Thanks Jason. I had a feeling you would for sure be one of the persons answering.

Oh and the cable is a standard USB cable. Computer side is a the USB-A and the tester plugs in with the USB-B end.

If it uses a USB cable, it's not the old port design...is there a separate icon to put config settings in? You might need to run that to set the port parameters up if there is one.

Theres no setup program that I can see. Once you get in the program, is there some parameters that it allows you to configure, or does it lock you out with that error?

I can't get it to finish loading after that error. The status bar loads abouts third of way and never progresses. But another guy I'm using the equipment with was somehow able to get it to load earlier but once you pick the injector you want to test and you try to run the test it pops that error up again.

Sounds like that program isn't ready for prime time...probably needs some registry edits to enter in a parameter to get past that error.

They got it fixed but not sure how. Going to go back out to the shop Thursday. I agree with you though Jason, I dont think it was really up to snuff yet.
