Things went wrong Empty
PostSubject: Things went wrong   Things went wrong EmptyFebruary 23rd 2015, 9:32 am

Saturday I took my wife in to a surgical center where she had to be put under. Something went wrong, she aspirated and now has what is called chemical pneumonia that has caused a blood clot to form in her lungs. If the clot breaks lose, well I don't want to come to terms with that right now. I'm on my way back to the hospital to be with her as she gets treatment and more tests to see what they can do for her.
Yesterday she seemed a lot better, but it's the clot that scares everyone.

She has been in the hospital 3 days now and I don't think I've seen the same doctors more than once. 3 different Gastro doctors, 3 different Pulmanory, 3 different Cardiac, and the same GP she uses when she can't get up to her fathers.
Each person has a different thought: They all agree on the chemical pneumonia, one thinks her lymph nodes are swollen, but could be from the meds, Heart may be swollen and a valve not working right. Half the day she is out for more testing, another Cat Scan, ultra sound, EKG again.
Each time a new doctor comes in it's like groundhog day. You have to give the whole story from Saturday on. I told her I would type it up and let them read it instead of asking all the same questions.
At 8:00 am I was at the doctors office this morning insisting I get a copy of the transcripts from the procedure. They didn't want to give it to me so soon, but FIL says to get it before they can change anything. I think they know this is bad for them. Frustrating to say the least.
No idea when she can come home, IV fluids connected for antibiotics non stop. MY FIL says this is much worse than regular pneumonia.

While I'm not a doctor I've know for years(don't know why) that chemical pneumonia is very bad and hard to treat.
IIRC you can get it from sucking on a hose trying to syphon fuel if you inhale and get some in your lungs.

Things are looking better. Her lungs are showing signs of clearing up an they now say for sure there are no blood clots as first suspected. The lungs should heal and not leave a scar. Once she doesn't show a fever for 24 hours, they will take her off the IV anti-biotic and give her the pill form. More tests and a CT today sound like she is out of the woods but this type of pneumonia is the hardest to cure.
The Gastro doctor that did the procedure was in today ass kissing and saying this is common. I wanted to say we'll see what the lawyer says, but I held back until we find out if this is malpractice or not. My real beef with the surgery center was that they literally kicked us out the door, said they had to close up and we were the last people there. I twice asked for an ambulance, and was told they would get her dressed and help put her in the Yukon but didn't want an ambulance there. She couldn't even lift her head up when they dressed her and wheeled her out to the SUV.
It was a long day. Work, hospital, out to a viewing, picked up my daughter and went back to the hospital. Work was good, they knew what was going on and scheduled me to leave at 12:00 and pay for a full day. On top of all that, my wife is pissed as she is turning 50 on 2/25 and all the nurses are wishing her a happy birthday and she doesn't want to admit her age. I guess its with all women.

I'd like to wish a Happy Birthday to your wife Rich. May she enjoy many more!
Great to hear she is on the mend. Hopefully this'll soon be nothing more than a bad memory.

You can tell she is getting better every. Hopefully she won't have a fever and they will let her go home. Now I will have to find a cake that she can eat. She is on a very limited diet as the tests that actually started this mess show she has colitis. They are not sure on a direction to take to heal or calm it down until the biopsy results are in.

Thanks for all the support, It's nice to just be able to vent these things.

Glad to hear she is recovering. You had me scared it would be a very very long road but she seems to be moving pretty quick to 100%. That's great!

My biggest beef would be with the surgery center as well. Seems as though they couldn't have cared less about her after they caused the issue. I'd keep quiet as much as you can like you have been with the doctors. Don't tip them off about looking into legal action.

She is expecting to come home today. So far all the doctors she has seen have given her clearance. Her GP doctor will make the final decision. My feeling is she will stay another day just to be on the safe side. Her father can't sign her out as he doesn't have privileges at that hospital. Also, we don't want him involved in any way. As bad as things went, we are not on the border on legal action. Most important is health, and if there are a lot of bills not covered by insurance then we will weigh the options.

Even if you don't file any suits you should at least file a formal complaint about the surgery center.

We have decided to see a lawyer and see if there is any merit for a settlement. I brought her home at 5:00 tonight, she is still really weak. At least she is in her own bed and away from the crazy roommate she had. Birthday cake will have to wait for a few days.

Evan and I had been texting this whole time, even before the problems so it was good to be able to talk about it with him.

It's great to hear she is home and doing better. I've had colitis it's not fun. For some reason I am prone to getting old people stuff really early on in life. When your dr walks in the room and says wtf you know something is wrong with you.
